Another year of record-breaking numbers is expected at the 2007 CEDIA Expo due to the continued growth of the residential electronics industry. Attendance records were broken at the 2006 event with more than 28,000 attendees, making it the largest show in its 17-year history.
The Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association anticipates its expo growing even more this year. "Our hope is to have as many as last year if not more, but I don't want to jinx it," says Debbie Antrim, trade show director. A record number of exhibitors were on hand in 2006, a number that is expected to grow with more than 600 exhibitors registered for 2007 displaying the latest technologies and products, including home theaters to environmental control.
A returning feature of the conference will be CEDIA University courses. Offered are more than 200 courses including full-day workshops, boot camps and certification in five different curricula. "We don't have any new education programs, but last year's changes in the CEDIA University core curricula for the Electronic Systems Technician and Electronic Systems Designer colleges, as well as increased recognition of CEDIA Certification in the industry, should cause participation in the educational events to reach higher levels." Antrim says.
With more than 600 exhibitors, it may be difficult for attendees to target specific products of interest. A solution is the MyCediaExpo online account found on CEDIA's website at cedia.net. This account allows registered attendees to search products and exhibitors before the show begins. MyCediaExpo also offers an event-planning feature for attendees to identify resources that will save time and money for their organization. "We hope people will take advantage of this feature to make the show the best and most helpful for them," Antrim says
Antrim says she is most excited about the entertainment scheduled for attendees and exhibitors. This year's keynote speakers are Frank Abagnale, international thief whose incredible story is told in the motion picture, "Catch Me If You Can," and Marcus Buckingham, an expert on outstanding leadership and managing practices.
In addition, after the awards banquet Sept. 8, The Goo Goo Dolls will perform during the Saturday night concert — a repeat feature from last year's show.
The conference and expo will be held in Denver for the second year in a row at the Colorado Convention Center. "We hold the show in the same location for three years and then we move on," Antrim explains.
