Completely redesigned for 2007, the Wisconsin-built GMC Yukon family offers four engine choices, three automatic transmissions, rear- and four-wheel drive, an extended wheelbase version, (Yukon XL) and a heavy-duty three quarter ton Yukon XL 2500 model. For those of you who prefer more luxury with your full sized sport ute, there is the Yukon Denali.
GM’s small-block V8 powers the Yukon and Yukon XL. The 5.3-liter V8 makes 320 horsepower at 5200 RPM and 340 foot-pounds of torque at 4200 RPM. E85 capable, the engine can run on gasoline, ethanol, or a mixture of gasoline and ethanol. It uses Active Fuel Management to enable better fuel economy by switching between eight-cylinder and four-cylinder operation. The engine returns 14 miles per gallon in the city, 20 on the highway and is standard on all models except the base Yukon with rear-wheel drive.
That vehicle uses a 4.8-liter V8 that makes 295 horsepower at 5600 RPM and 305 foot-pounds of torque at 4800, while returning 14 miles per gallon in the city and 19 on the highway.
The Yukon XL ‘s 5.3L-liter also employs Active Fuel Management and is E85 capable. It delivers 310 hp at 5200 RPM and 335 foot-pounds of torque at 4400. Fuel economy is also 14 in the city and 20 on the highway.
The optional 6.0-liter V8 for Yukon XL is standard equipment on the Yukon XL 2500. It makes 366 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 380 foot-pounds of torque at 4300 RPM. Owners can expect 12 miles per gallon in the city and 17 on the highway.
Yukon Denali models get a 6.0-liter V8 that delivers 380 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 417 foot-pounds of torque at 4400 RPM. It delivers 12-city and 18-highway.
All are designed to run on regular-unleaded fuel.
Noted for durability and capability, the Yukon models nevertheless offer considerable comfort and convenience as well. Power articulating running boards reveal themselves when the doors are opened to ease entry. Similarly, the power liftgate enhances accessibility to cargo.
