Part of the vendor's 4TRESS product line (which also includes the 4TRESS AAA Server for Remote Access and the 4TRESS Authentication SDK), 4TRESS Authentication Server is targeted primarily to financial institutions and MSPs and provides for them an authentication platform and interface enabling the centralized management and implementation of user authentication to various services and applications in the organization.

4TRESS Authentication Server is deployed over Linux or AIX and integrates with applications through a public API which can be accessed via a variety of methods, including Java RMI, Java, C, C#, and SOAP clients available for platforms including Solaris, Windows, AIX, Redhat Linux, and SuSE. A browser-based interface requiring no specific client installations is also provided.

Supported authentication methods include one-time passwords (with support for the vendor's own ActivIdentity technology or OATH compliant tokens), PIN verification, EMV (using the vendor's ActivIdentity Solo Reader compatible with MasterCard CAP or VISA DPA), standard usernames/passwords, or Q&A schemes. For integration with existing organizational authentication infrastructure, support is provided for ODBC/JDBC data stores, remote RADIUS servers, or LDAP v3 platforms including IBM Tivoli Directory Server, Active Directory, eDirectory, Oracle Internet Directory, and Sun Java System Directory.

Other key features of the platform include:

- Support for user password self-resets

- Administrative tools including automatic password generation; help-desk based password reset; unlocking, synchronization, and assigning/unassigning of devices; changes of credentials; user and group management; etc.

- Central auditing of all authentication and administration actions in a digitally-signed log

- Support for the reporting of application-level events via log file entries, SNMP, or JMX

- Encryption of stored secrets via 3DES

New in the latest release of 4TRESS Authentication Server is support for RADIUS, a C# SOAP client, and an interface to Sun's OpenSSO Access Manager.

4TRESS Authentication Server is available now. Contact ActivIdentity for further information.Author: EITPlanet Staff
