It's not WiMax, but it can provide plenty of wireless backhaul for a WiMax network: Redline Communications' RedConnex AN-80i products can provide speeds up to 108 Megabits per second (Mbps) over the unlicensed 5.4GHz radio spectrum. The company says it's the first such product to get approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States.

Redline says it already has several hundred AN-80i units on order for areas across the globe, for use in jobs like monitoring pipelines and borders, and of course for municipal network backhaul. In the U.S., WiMax provider TowerStream is a customer. The units are outdoor-specific, using IEEE 802.3af Power-over Ethernet (PoE) to get data and power.

Redline also makes the RedMax line of products, which are certified by the WiMax Forum.
