The ABSplus / ABS-V2 / Velocity2 line of devices are targeted to desktop or mobile backup/restore scenarios. The devices are self contained hardware and software offerings, providing plug-n-play backup and restore functionalities to Windows or Mac OS X machines via USB 2.0 or FireWire. Removable drive (the Velocity) versions are also provided; and the Velocity2 line provides from 2 to 5 disks or RAID protected external/portable backup potential. The overall product line ranges from the ABSplus Notebook and ABS-V2 series, a 7 ounce device (1.125 x 5 x 3 inches) offered in capacities from 40 to 160 GB; through the ABSplus Desktop series, weighing in at 2.4 lbs (8.25 x 5.25 x 1.6 inches) and offered in capacities of from 80 GB to 750 GB; to the Velocity2 redundant disk series offerings, with two to five drives boasting raw capacities of from 500 GB to 3.75 TB of capacity.

Each of the ABSplus / ABS-V2 devices sports data transfer capabilities of up to 480 Mb/sec (USB 2.0; FireWire devices support up to 408 Mb/sec). The smaller Notebook versions are powered directly by the interface themselves; while the desktop versions require power adapters. All of the devices are preloaded/configured with the vendor's BounceBack Professional software. The new ABS-V2 devices are SATA II based versions of the Notebook offerings.

BounceBack Professional provides plug-n-play backup and restore capabilities, such that upon initial installation, the device automatically backs up the laptop's complete system, including files, applications, and OS. Successive connections to the device trigger automatic incremental backups of changed and new data files on the laptop. After the initial backup, the ABSplus drive itself is bootable, and in the case of complete drive failure can therefore be swapped with the failed drive in the laptop. Backed up data is saved to the devices in its native file format. A "Rescue CD" provides a recovery function and/or the ability to re-image the primary drive.

Additional features provided by BounceBack Professional include a "QuickRestore" module allowing for point and click restoration of selected files; support for custom sets of data to be backed up as well as backup scheduling; file versioning allowing for the restoration of a previous version of the file; and data synchronization. (Versioning and synchronization are not supported in the Mac OS X versions of the device).

The Velocity2 Redundant Disk offerings, by virtue of their multi-disk design, also offer drive redundancy features; including support for RAID 1 or 0+1 (5 drive) protection.

Each of the devices are available now. Pricing ranges from $169 (ABSplus 80 GB Desktop) to $4,799 (Velocity2 5 disk).
