The AGT-100D is a small device that can be attached to a person or asset (such as a laptop computer) and provides a means to locate the device using assisted-GPS (AGPS) based services through a cellular network. I.E., the device is CDMA 2000 1x RTT w/QUALCOMM gpsONE compatible (operating in the 800 and 1900 Mhz bands) and can be utilized in conjunction with a cellular provider's Location Based Services to allow for the tracking or locating of the tag. According to the vendor, the device will work with any Internet-based Web app that uses AGPS services for tracking, or laptops/smartphones equipped with the appropriate tracking software.

The vendor targets the device to the locating of mobile/stolen assets, or tracking of key individuals.

Key features of the device include programmable tracking and fencing, as well as the aforementioned locating. The fencing ability allows the device to automatically alert personnel (by phone or to a compatible IP-based server) should the tag move outside a designated area (which are specified with a radius in meters); up to three such geo-fences can be defined within each tag. A Geo Fence indicator LED is also included on the device.

The device offers full TIA/EIA/IS-98D compliance, and other features include backwards compatibility with IS-95A/B; support for interval tracking, continuous tracking, and one-button manual location alerting; and remote control support (the ability to control the device from a compatible Web server app).

The device ships with a 1220 mAh Li-ion battery; which the vendor notes is good enough for twenty days of use (assuming a single location fix every 15 minutes). Three GPS modes are supported in all: MS-Assisted mode, which provides a location fix in 10 to 20 seconds; MS-Based mode, with responses in 2 seconds; and AFTL mode, with responses in 5 seconds. All times are based on "open sky" environments.

Optional accessories for the 81mm x 47mm x 20.5mm device are a belt clip, magnetic mount, screw mount, 5000mAh battery and a data cable. The mounts and higher-powered battery, however, are listed as currently unavailable in the vendor's literature. In addition to the Power on/off and aforementioned geo fencing indicator, other external controls include a reset button, USB-to-serial connectivity, and external battery connectivity.

The AGT-100D is available now, with a price of $199. Contact AnyDATA for further information.Author: EITPlanet Staff
