A New Year, a New Look

provided by:

During my time at EMS Magazine, I have gone through a lot of changes—design changes, that is. Editors are constantly looking for ways in which to improve the readability of a magazine, so we make sure that if you open the issue, you actually end up finishing it! Redesigns are big news in the publishing world. Magazines send out PR to each other announcing their new looks, and there are even awards specifically focused on these revamps.

Sometimes redesigns can be sad, because it is like saying goodbye to an old friend who really didn't do anything to offend you. This time, though, I don't mind bidding adieu. I am excited to bring you our new look, which I think is modern, easy to read and packages information in such a way that you can immediately implement it within your realm of operations.

Also new this issue is the categorization of the majority of our feature articles into educational tracks, comparable to what you see at EMS conferences. These will be identified by our EMS Academy logo, which will appear on the opening page of the article. Specific tracks include management, education, clinical care and disaster response. We know that time is not on your side and we hope that by our organizing the information in this way, you can immediately turn to the type of article of most interest to you.

This year, we will also embrace a complete solutions-based approach to the material that we publish. We all know what the problems are in EMS. Instead of reopening old wounds, we will focus on profiling agencies that are making positive inroads into solving critical industry issues and offer tips on how you can utilize a similar approach in your system.

I hope you like our new format and welcome your comments on how we can continue to improve our operations. E-mail nancy.perry@cygnusb2b.com.
