AcceleNet is a client-server software acceleration platform that improves the performance of file shares, E-mail, Web, and other networked applications over wireless, satellite, dial-up, and broadband connections. The AcceleNet approach makes use of patented compression, application-level optimizations, a proprietary transport protocol, and enterprise security features.

AcceleNet's compression algorithm compares new data against history to-according to the vendor-reduce data traversing the network by as much as 80%, and uses patented technology to encode new data. Features include large-file compression, cross-protocol compression, bi-directional compression, encrypted data storage, and shared server history.

Application-level optimizations enhance performance via a built-in knowledge of the application protocol and the profile of the network connection; for instance, AcceleNet reduces protocol chattiness during large file transfers to minimize the impact of high-latency connections. The range of supported application protocols includes CIFS/SMB (including Signed SMB), MAPI, HTTP, and HTTPS.

AcceleNet uses a proprietary UDP-based transport protocol, which the vendor calls Intelligent Transport Protocol (ITP). ITP incorporates application-aware optimization, receiver-side link modeling, and handling of dropped packets.

Additional transport optimization includes dynamic bandwidth allocation to real-time data such as Internet voice calls, and an ability to maintain acceleration and resume an in-process transfer following brief network disconnects, such as cellular roaming or moving between WLAN gateways.

Security features include compatibility for major IPsec and SSL VPNs (Cisco, Checkpoint, F5, Juniper, Nortel, and others) and the ability to operate without opening incoming ports on firewalls or other local software.

The software installs on Windows platforms and incorporates features such as:

- User self-installation with automatic detection of incompatibilities with already-installed software

- No changes to application settings, appearance, or function

- Out-of-critical path installation, no changes to content or application servers

- An administrator toolkit to configure, distribute, and manage client self-install packages using software distribution systems

- Centralized user session management and reporting

According to the vendor, the combination of these optimization techniques and others results in acceleration that approaches a broadband experience over narrowband and LAN speeds over broadband.Author: Company Rep
