Application security gateway vendor Neoteris has extended the support of its Access Series application security gateway series to includes most popular wireless device and handheld computing systems available today.

The company can provide secure remote access on any wireless device with a Symbian of Microsoft Pocket PC operating system. No client download or Java agent is needed, only the browser functionality on the client device, which contains the SSL support needed to establish the secure connection.

Wireless devices with the Symbian OS are using the Opera browser from Opera Software, with the devices running Pocket PC are using the Pocket Internet Explorer browser from Microsoft.

Supported devices using the Symbian OS with Opera include the Sony Erricsson P800 smart phone, the Psion Revo+ and netBook, and Nokia's 9210i and 7650 devices. Supported devices using the Pocket IE browser include Dell's Axmin X5, the Toshiba e355, e350, 3750 and e755 devices, and Pocket PCs from Maestro, ViewSonic and Zayo.

"There will be many more mobile workers in the years to come. The number of PDAs and handheld PCs in the market and the number of applications for them is growing like crazy," says Johnnie Konstantas, product marketing manager for Neoteris. "It makes sense for us to be looking to support these constituencies."

Users of the PDA devices supported by the Neoteris gateways see a login screen when they attempt to access the network. After entering their user ID, password, token or other authorization method, they establish secure access and their wireless communications are encrypted.

The enhanced Access Series functionality is available to all customers of the Neoteris Access Series on maintenance. The Access Series is priced in the range of $5,000 to $15,000, depending n the number of simultaneous users needing support.
