  • Provide a toy mirror so your baby can play with her own reflection
  • If your baby is interested in pulling herself up into the standing position provide a safe place near a sofa or coffee table away from hard edges and surfaces to practice
  • Read simple books to your baby. Read them several times as babies learn through repetition
  • At this age babies love toys that show cause and effect. Pop up toys like jack-in-the-box are great. Your baby will also enjoy nesting cylinders, balls and puppets
  • To help with the development of the pincer grip - offer small toys like blocks for her to hold. Visual skills are rapidly improving
  • He can now figure out the size of an object from about two feet away (1 meter). For example, if you roll a ball towards your baby he'll know it will get bigger the closer it gets. To practice this visual skill try rolling balls slowly towards your baby and see how he learns when to bat at it with his hands
  • To encourage your baby to learn about texture and to develop her sense of touch it is good to have a few touch and feel books on hand. These books contain various types of textures such as smooth and rough. Be sure to describe to your baby each texture as she explores them
  • Your baby enjoys learning about space and if he is crawling will spend quite a bit of time crawling behind chairs and couches to explore space. Play tunnels can be a fun thing for this age.
  • Remember that at this age most babies like to put everything in their mouths. Check toys regularly for size, loose parts and try to give them a good wash regularly in warm, soapy water - rinse after and dry in the sun (if possible).

Have fun!
