2. Overview

In any HVAC installation and servicing, a professional technician should oversee the entire work progress. This is because some equipments may require certain modifications or customization to fit an individual’s need or of the building under consideration. In addition, manufacturers will send their trained technicians to do all the installations for the client. Sometimes this may be necessary if the warranty of the equipment is to remain valid. Since this is an after-sales service, it is convenient and economical for the client. Most systems however do not require a professional to undertake the installation or servicing. Knowing a few basics on the operation and installation of the air conditioning equipment will equip one with the right tools to do it successfully.

3. Installing an Air Conditioner

Before doing the installation, it is wise to know the air conditioner size that will need to be used. The window and the openings that will be required should be measured and ascertained with accuracy. For the air conditioner to be effective, it needs to fit into the openings. Air conditioners come with mounting brackets with instructions on how to fix them. These brackets are installed once the conditioner unit is put into place. It is wise to follow the manufacture’s instructions on how to position the conditioner unit into place. Then when it is set into place, lower the window to cover the unit onto the top. Pull out, and attach the extensions of the air conditioner on each side to the frame of the window. Use foam to seal to window to the top of the air conditioner. Usually, the manufacturer will provide the appropriate foam to use for the sealing. Attach the drainage hose to the air conditioner on the outside, caulk the outside to keep warm air outside and finally plug in the air conditioner and enjoy the cool breeze.

4. Purchasing Air Conditioners

Air conditioners can be of the following: either a Central heating (Cooling System) or a unit air conditioner. The central cooling system uses vents throughout the house or the building with a central controller cool each room. A unit air conditioner is a big box placed in a window to cool a single room. Obviously, ductless air conditioning is much cheaper and easy to install while one with ducts requires a trained technician to install and possibly to perform future maintenance. Since a unit air conditioner is small and suited for small single rooms, it should not be installed in a curving hallway. If it is to cool a room, it should be in that room and not in the adjacent room. This is because cool currents cannot travel around corners.
