Experience York’s rich history through a series of walking tours, presented by Downtown Inc with support from The Yorktowne Hotel. Themes have been developed to highlight York’s distinct history, architecture, and lore. Holiday Church Tour Saturday, December 5, 2009 Downtown York is home to many beautiful, historic churches. Join us as some of these places open their doors and welcome us inside to hear more about the history of their buildings and congregations. We’ve scheduled this tour to take place just before the holidays so we can also enjoy their seasonal decorations. Led by JJ Sheffer. General Tour Info Tour steps off at 11 a.m. from the lobby of White Rose Business Center at 1 East Market Street, on the northeast corner of Continental Square in downtown York. Pre-registration is required. Tours are limited to 50 people, so register early to reserve your spot. The cost to participate is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under. All participants will receive a downtown gift bag filled with information, coupons, and gifts from downtown businesses and organizations. This tour will last approximately two hours and end at Central Market House. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, and plan to stay for lunch at the market and to visit nearby shops after the tour. This tour will take you behind the scenes at several historic properties as beautiful and unexpected masterpieces take center stage. You’ll have special access to places like the York Water Company, where you’ll learn about the magnificently painted and decorated ceiling.
