The staircase in this home needed to be sculptural yet feel good at the same time. The challenge was to create a memorable feature that did not compete with the harmony of the house. Phil Kean Designs in Winter Park, Fla., came up with the solution to create a staircase with only the landing attached to a stone wall.

The staircase steps up both on the top and the undersides. Glass balustrades allow the sculptural shape to be seen against the quartz stone wall. Ipe wood with different grains is used to create color variations further enhancing the sculptural aspect of the stair.
