By using a trademarked LifeCentric design system, Choate Custom Homes in Milford, Mich., systematically identified all of the key elements of its clients' lives and designed their home around them. A specific desire was an elegant master bath suite. The wife wanted a place to retreat from the world to relax and unwind, with as much natural light as possible.

Like many homeowners, this couple requested more than 100 change orders, some of which required major structural changes, which continually challenged the design team. For example, the wife wanted more natural light in the master bathroom after it was approved, framed and shingled. And after the house was completely framed, she also asked Choate to redesign the shower to utilize even more natural light.

The roof system was redesigned and a functional dormer was added over a quiet reading space in the master bath. A free-standing tub is now the focal point for the room, and in the shower, awning windows were added to provide the effect of, again, adding more natural light.
