Battlefield 2142 PC Review Los Angeles CA

That's one thing you get in Battlefield 2142; a lot more intense battles between massive hulking vehicles with huge explosions and people running everywhere.

When Dice released the 1942 demo they probably didn't know just how big the game was going to become and the fact that EA was going to buy them out, but as we know now both things occurred and the juggernaut continues to power on. With the modern day combat out of the way it was time to look to the future and that's exactly what the developers have done. Battlefield 2142, funnily enough, is set in the year 2142 with futuristic combat and vehicles the order of the day, and while it continues the Battlefield gameplay extremely well, it doesn't go far enough in comparison to its predecessor.

There really is no major storyline in the game considering it is very multiplayer focused however the overall story is that in 2142 the world is made up of two regions, Ice and Desert, where the battles take place. It's quite a trip playing a battle in the middle of Germany with the surroundings entirely desert. The PAC and the European armies battle each other for control of the land and this is where you and your many friends come in, to play out this war.

Battlefield 2142, as expected, is played from a first person perspective but is not entirely a first person shooter. It has vehicle elements, command elements and various options which mix the gameplay up quite a bit. In essence the game really hasn't changed since 1942 with conquest the main game mode. The aim of this mode is to deplete the enemies 'tickets' which allow them to get going again and you do this by capturing flags around the place. DICE however wanted to bring something new to this game and 'Titan mode' is the result. In Titan, both teams have a large airship which needs to be destroyed to win. There is two ways to do this, jump onto the ship and destroy its nuclear core or just destroy its hull which takes much longer. This somewhat works like conquest as you need to capture nuclear missiles to shoot at the Titans to be able to get through the shield so they haven't differed from proven gameplay too much.

This time around single player has been completely forgotten. Rather than have a sort of campaign where missions play out in a specific order, you just basically setup a server and play bots. This is probably not surprising considering the previous two titles, and the fact the game is so multiplayer focused it's not such a bad thing. The AI isn't exactly anything to write home about anyway and you will only use them to boost small servers rather than have a competitive game with them offline. They are useful for learning how to play the game however and they do use all the options available in the game.
