Experience York’s rich history through a series of walking tours, presented by Downtown Inc with support from The Yorktowne Hotel. Themes have been developed to highlight York’s distinct history, architecture, and lore. Mysteries of York Town Thursday, October 29, 2009 Downtown York’s center square is surrounded by homes, businesses, alleyways, and public buildings that hold more mysteries than one person can grasp in a single day or week. This walking tour will introduce you to the curious legends of a town that once served as Capital of the USA. There are ghost stories, tales of the rich and powerful, legends of the Underground Railroad, folklore to ponder – and some of the most beautiful architecture you could ever hope to see in a short survey that will take you across York’s downtown. Led by Georg Sheets. General Tour Info Tours step off at 6 p.m. from the lobby of White Rose Business Center at 1 East Market Street, on the northeast corner of Continental Square in downtown York. Pre-registration is required. Tours are limited to 50 people, so register early to reserve your spot. The cost to participate is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under. All participants will receive a downtown gift bag filled with information, coupons, and gifts from downtown businesses and organizations. Tours last approximately two hours and end at the Yorktowne Hotel, where participants will have the chance to mingle and enjoy refreshments courtesy of the Yorktowne. Guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, and may bring personal items such as a flashlight or umbrella. There is metered, on-street parking in the vicinity, as well as convenient access to the Market Street, King Street, and Philadelphia Street parking garages. Parking meter enforcement runs until 6:30 p.m.
