Car Seats for Babies Washington DC

With a clever convertible design you can make the most out of your car seat. Your baby will need to travel in the rear-facing position until she is 1 year old and weighs over 20 pounds. However, if your baby weighs more than 20 pounds before the age of one he should still remain in the rear-facing position.

  • With a clever convertible design you can make the most out of your car seat.
  • Your baby will need to travel in the rear-facing position until she is 1 year old and weighs over 20 pounds. However, if your baby weighs more than 20 pounds before the age of one he should still remain in the rear-facing position.
  • When the car seat is in the rear-facing position and you would like to see your baby's face, use a special baby mirror and install it on the back of the car seat. Not only will you be able to see how your baby is doing, but your baby will be entertained by her own image!
  • Choose a seat which has the five-point harness system. This means that it has straps for the thighs, two over the shoulder straps, and a crotch strap.
  • Always pay attention to the height and weight limits of a seat before you buy it. Ask yourself will this be suitable for my baby?
  • If the seat has several slots for the harness - just make sure that the harness is in the slot at or below your baby's shoulders.
  • Never let an older child buckle in your baby. To ensure it's safe every time a parent needs to do this.
  • Check the car seat every time you put your baby in it and make sure it is still securely in place and that the harnesses are fitting snugly.
  • To ensure that your baby's neck and head are protected and doesn't flop too far forward - check to see if your car seat has an angle adjuster. If it doesn't you can simply use a rolled up towel or even a pool noodle and just tilt the car safety seat back and place the towel or noodle just underneath the base. Once you have done this place your baby in the car safety seat to check if her head is at an angle that won't allow her head to flop too far forward.
  • Remember to use a seat designed for an infant first, you can then move onto a convertible seat for a toddler taking note of its height and weight limits and after this you can use a booster seat until your child is 57 inches (ages 8-12 years).
  • Always read the owners manual and the accompanying instructions BEFORE installing. Make sure you follow all the steps.
  • Allow at least 30 minutes to correctly install a car seat. Grab a friend to help out!
  • After installing the car seat check that it's securely in place by pushing it hard. It shouldn't move more than 1 inch in any direction. If it does you'll need to re-adjust and check it again.
  • It's a good idea to check the seat whenever your child is using it. It only takes a few seconds and considering it's your baby's safety at risk it's time well spent.
