The Acura MDX offers a quiet ride and brisk acceleration performance. MDX is rated to tow up to 5000 pounds. Its rigid structure, and long wheelbase add up to a quiet ride quality, and we've experienced zero squeaks, creaks, groans or rattles.
The new Acura MDX offers a quiet ride and brisk acceleration performance. With the five-speed automatic, the MDX is rated to tow up to 5000 pounds.
The Acura MDX is all-new for 2007. It's larger then the previous model and has been improved in every area. That's saying something given that the first-generation MDX (2001-2006) had a unique combination of style, design, utility, and a rock-solid powertrain with both good power and good fuel economy that made it very popular among mid-size luxury SUVs.
The MDX's angular headlights house projection-type beams. An aerodynamic chin spoiler integrated into the front bumper directs air smoothly to the sides of the car.
The 2007 Acura MDX exterior and interior were designed entirely in America, at Honda's facilities in Los Angeles and Ohio, with input from design centers in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Milan, Italy.
The RDX, as in Acura RDX from Honda, is a Japanese SUV. While this is a Japanese- styled car, it was designed for the American market.
The most fun you can have with an Acura RDX is driving it through corners like a sports car. It does a really great job of this. The paddle-shifting transmission shifts smoothly and obeys your input.
The RDX could just as well have been named “Enigma,” because its place in the automotive world is a puzzlement not seen since Yul Brynner ruled siam. It’ll sprint nearly neck-and-neck with a Volkswagen GTI through the quarter mile; they both clock in at 14.8 seconds, though the GTI has a higher trap speed.
The 2009 Acura RDX is a compact, sporty crossover vehicle. Part SUV and part tall wagon, the RDX makes no claims of off-road ability, instead offering the cargo versatility of a ute and performance more like that of a sport sedan.
The most fun you can have with an Acura RDX is driving it through corners like a sports car. It does a really great job of this. The paddle-shifting transmission shifts smoothly and obeys your input, except when you downshift at an engine speed it thinks is too high, or upshift at one it thinks is too low.
Acura calls the all-new 2007 RDX a CUV. Here's the irony: it earns the name because it's sportier than a Sport Utility Vehicle. Sporty driving is what this CUV-formerly-known-as-SUV is all about.
The RDX dashboard fairly cascades with colors, textures and levels. The top is wide and flat, black vinyl; there's a three-inch tall strip of dark titanium plastic in the center, broken by the display screen; and at the bottom it turns to smooth vinyl in light gray.
Indeed it has, but the new RL isn't quite what we had expected. Many of us had hoped for a big rear-driver to compete with the Lexus LS 430 and Infiniti Q45. Instead, Acura opted to build a reasonably compact RL that's 3.0 in. shorter than the previous RL (with a 4.4-in. decrease in wheelbase), and equip it with a V-6 rather than a V-8.
The Acura RL is smooth, responsive and enjoyable in everyday driving. On winding roads, it delivers agile handling and a taut, poised feel. It grips the corners, has excellent transient response and stops in a short distance.
The Acura RL is sporty and fun to drive, combining a free-revving, 290-horsepower V6 engine with all-wheel drive, and a nicely balanced suspension for great grip, responsive handling and superior stability.
Acura's 3.5-liter V6 engine generates 290 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque at 5000 rpm. That's impressive power from a V6. (You may note the 2005 RL was rated at 300 horsepower.
The cabin is luxurious and functional. The seats are comfortable for cruising yet supportive for hard driving. The wide armrests have a nice soft feel. The Acura RL is a roomy car, though the back seats don't offer as much room as some of the other cars in this class do.
That's well and good, but many of us like some stylistic forever to go with the acceleration and creature comforts. Here the 2004 Acura TL scores big, with rakish lines that drew near-unanimous praise around the R&T offices. Plus, its 270-bhp 3.2-liter V-6 gives the base car all the performance of last year's Type-S model.
The Acura TL is clearly a car for people who like to drive. Its confident, alert composure on the road not only makes driving enjoyable but also makes you a better driver. Compared to most of its rivals, the TL feels lightweight and responsive.
For 2007, the Acura TL receives a useful makeover that features styling changes and upgraded mechanical details, plus more electronic features. Most important, there are now two models, the standard TL and the performance-oriented TL Type-S.
In keeping with Acura's heritage of functional Japanese efficiency, the TL's interior emphasizes practicality and useful features rather than sumptuous luxury. At the same time, a sure sense of graceful design and the use of impeccable materials make the TL's cabin appealing.
While it's not quite the case that if you've seen one Acura, you've seen them all, there's still a consistency to the marque's styling that ties all its models together. TSX is no exception to that rule. Although it stretches the mold a bit, as it should, there's still no mistaking it for anything but one of Honda's luxury line.
The Acura TSX is an amazingly refined and sporty four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive sedan with a powerful and responsive engine, flawless suspension, seductive shifting and a classy leather interior.

While changing the motor oil and filter promotes long engine life, it's also important to consider the multitude of other wear items that require regular lubrication that are in, on or attached to a vehicle. Without the precious molecules of grease in between them, the two halves can stick, squeak, groan and wear out before their time, or fail altogether. While grease comes in many different flavors, it is important to use the right grease for the job.

The Audi A4 offers good handling and response, making it a lot of fun on winding roads. It's extremely stable at high speeds, as one might expect from a bigger, heavier car. Its engines range from spry and economical to Holy Cow! with gas guzzler tax.
The Audi A4 is one of the better cars in a crowd of smaller sport-luxury sedans that, dollar-for-dollar, offers some of the best, most appealing vehicles in the world.
The premium-grade look outside the Audi A4 carries through inside, thanks to clean, elegant design, generally rich-looking materials and good finish work. Colors combinations tend to be muted, and a choice of wood trims or aluminum inserts complement the leather, cloth and plastics.
The Audi S5 starts with a deep purr, definitely a V8 but refined compared to rumbling Detroit muscle. However, in the upper revs the S5 aligns with the A5 V6's more mechanical song. The gas pedal has lots of travel so the driver can fine tune how much power to apply and how quickly.
The Audi A6 is dynamically superb. Quattro models deliver a feeling of being on rails, benefits of a rigid chassis, a well-engineered sports suspension, and Audi's superb all-wheel drive.
The new A6 is roomier (wheelbase is up by 3.2 in., to 111.9), considerably quicker, quieter and only a smidgen more expensive than the car it replaces, while still wholly identifiable as an A6. To switch analogies for a moment, the director hasn't thrown out the script entirely; he's just sent it back to the writer to punch up a few key scenes.

The styling of the Audi Q7 offers no surprises, just typical Audi class, as if the A6 wagon experienced an unexpected growth spurt. The Q7 is bigger than it looks. The blunt front end features Audi's signature bold grille flanked by menacing headlights at the leading edge of the sculpted hood.
The Q7's standard full-time quattro all-wheel drive system requires no driver input. Normally, power is delivered to the front and rear wheels in a 42/58 percent split in order to create a rear-wheel-drive sensation for confident dry-weather handling.
Luxury SUVs have gained widespread popularity in the United States. However, until now, Audi has not had an offering in this segment of the market, leaving a gaping hole in its model lineup. But as the saying goes: arrive late, dress well. And Audi has done just that with its sensational Q7.
Audi designed the Q7 interior with flexibility in mind, with 28 different passenger/cargo arrangements between three available seating configurations. With the conventional 40/20/40 split second-row bench seat, the Q7 seats five; add the third-row seat and it'll seat seven.

Engine coolant takes away the heat produced by internal combustion. The radiator channels the heat away from the coolant in order to keep the metal parts of the engine from turning into a useless cracked and molten lump. Passages inside the radiator are connected to fins, which wick away heat from the coolant and send it away from the engine compartment. Hot coolant meanders its way into the labyrinth of channels and passages inside the radiator, and then returns to the engine considerably cooler through the miracle of heat transfer.

From the days of the Speed Six and 4.5-liter blower Bentleys a long hood and mesh grille have been hallmarks, and the Continentals carry them to this day. The slightly reclined grille and smoothly faired expanse of hood marry graceful substantial proportions with aerodynamic function and slickness required for stability at the three-mile-a-minute speeds every Continental easily exceeds.
Odds are, you're not in the market for one of these cars. Not that I'm implying you can't afford a ...
The Bentley Continental Flying Spur is a grand car that recalls a heroic age, a throwback to a time when big sedans were more art than science. Yet the Flying Spur also adds performance, technology, and even utility to this formula, and the result is a car that is uniquely practical as well as uniquely beautiful.
Forgive me for quoting directly from the press kit, but when it comes to describing the new Continental GT, W.O. Bentley's mission statement cuts cleanly through the PR puffery and rings as true today as it did 83 years ago: "While it would offer great comfort and unquestioned luxury as it went about its daily business, so also it would possess a thinly veiled ability to turn into something special at any moment."
When the new Bentley Continental GT was unveiled at the Detroit auto show in 2003, everyone offered high praise for its styling. For me, as a designer, it offers better proportions than the Mercedes-Benz CL600 in this comparison.
Prestige has forever been Bentley's well-deserved reputation for building automobiles with unmatched creature comforts and incomparable style. Even with a change of ownership and remarkable design changes, Bentley's style and comfort departments remains high quality.
Power (and money) have a lot to do with choosing among the Mercedes S-Class models. The S550 comes with a 5.5-liter V8 engine that comes alive to the tune of 382 horsepower at 6000 rpm, with torque rated at 391 lb.-ft. at 2800 rpm. The 5.5-liter biturbo V12 that powers the S600 is rated at 510 horsepower at 5100 rpm and 612 lb.-ft of torque at 1800 rpm. All that power shows up in a staggering 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds for the S600.
The Mercedes S-Class boasts one of the most beautiful interior executions on the market today. Got Maybach envy? S-Class buyers can order special designo editions with lavish materials that make these truly sumptuous cars.
In thick traffic and city driving, though, you have to be careful, because the long nose of the car is way, way out there in front of you, and you simply can't see it, so we'd recommend rear-first parking, because the rear end is easier to see.
The SLR's inclusive list of standard equipment includes semi-aniline leather-upholstery mounted to a pair of carbon-fiber bucket seats that can be adapted to the driver and front passenger by means of different sized seat pads; dual-zone automatic air-conditioning; a Bose premium sound system; a multifunction sport steering wheel with gear-shift paddles, and a navigation system with an integral AM/FM radio and CD-changer built into it.

While many shops may think there is nothing new in the world of exhaust, manufacturers are making improvements. Advertising exhaust upgrades with an emphasis on fuel economy and "green technology" can bring in new customers that may have never considered performance parts before.
What most do not know about the BMV Bavaria, is that it has the very same drivetrain as the E9 coupe. However, the BMW Bavaria differs from the E9 in that it comes without the leather upholstery, the power equipment, and the funky Nivomat self-leveling suspension.
Simple mathematics will tell you that driving a 306-hp, 3400-pound rear-drive coupe built on a short-wheelbase chassis adds up to a great deal of driving enjoyment, especially when the engine's torque curve is absolutely flat from 1300 to 5000 rpm and the engine redlines at 7000 rpm.
Do you want comfort and size, or do you want to drive?Settling in behind the wheel of BMW's new 135i Coupe, I suddenly flash to the early 1990s, somewhere in the south of France, where I'm driving the brand-new E36 3 Series.
From the driver's seat, the BMW 3 Series Convertible communicates its understanding and acceptance of the responsibility of living up to the brand's heritage. Unlike most of its kin, this BMW remains a car a driver puts on and wears more than climbs into.
The 2007 BMW 3 Series Convertible comes in two trim designations, both two-door, four-passenger models with the marque's first-ever, retractable hard top supplanting the soft-tops of previous editions. Neither model name relates any longer to engine family.
The BMW 3 Series is the last of the BMW automotive family to fall prey to the marque's new-Bangled design vocabulary. As such, given that the design has encountered something significantly less than universal acclaim, the 3 Series is the least radicalized, leaving it the best looking, most cohesively styled and visually balanced BMW of the current lot.
BMW's design brief for the 2007 3 Series coupe was to give it an elegant yet athletic look that would clearly differentiate it from the four-door sedan introduced a year earlier. While the two vehicles share their 108.7-inch wheelbases, they share no sheetmetal.
BMW's 3 Series has always been about the driving. It has many of the attributes of a sports car with the practicality of a sedan. It offers rear-wheel drive and manual transmissions in a class increasingly dominated by front-wheel drive and automatics.
Instantly noticeable on the skin of the new $36,995 (including destination) 330i sedan — known internally as the E90 — is the bold crease running along the car's sides, the strake adding strength and presence. Another nice exterior touch, this one in the functional category, is the illuminated door handles.
Automotively speaking, BMW's latest gap wedge is the 335i Sedan, a perfect fit between the solid, reasonably quick 328i and the hell-for-leather M3. With a nice round 300 bhp and a like amount of torque from 2979 cc, it falls squarely between the 3 Series bookends (whose respective outputs are 230 bhp and most likely 400 bhp for the upcoming V-8-powered M3).
For more than three decades, the BMW 3 Series sports coupe has defined what the genre should be. And with its latest creation — the twin-turbocharged 335i — the standard has once again been set for all of the competition to chase.
For 2008, the BMW 5 Series has been mildly updated with what the auto industry calls a facelift. Most of the styling touch-up lies in subtle details, but in our view they add character to this luxury sedan.
Many buyers will find the BMW 5 Series a near-perfect size. It seems more substantial than some small luxury or sport sedans, with more usable interior space. At the same time it's not so physically bulky as large sedans, and therefore easier to maneuver in tight spaces and to park.
So cue the new 530i sedan to push through the saloon doors with its spurs-by-wire jingling. It follows the seven-year run of the award-gathering E-39 5 Series, which finished with a 26-percent sales increase in its last year, so this new E-60 5 Series doesn't have the luxury of replacing the town drunk, either.
The 6 Series seats provide excellent support, and they're more comfortable than the ultra-firm seats found in some of BMW's sports packages. Driver and passenger feel safely ensconced in this car, partly because of its high waistline.
From the driver's seat, both iterations of the BMW 6 Series seem to have it all: comfort, luxury, convenience and the ambience of a true high-performance car, with the M6 versions only adding to what the two 650i models promise. Coupes and convertibles inspire feelings of control, even of success, before the cars ever leave the driveway. These cars promise great rewards to drivers who take their driving seriously.
The BMW 7 Series has evolved significantly since the current generation was launched in 2002, but the evolution is in the details rather than the basic shape. This big sedan was a milestone in automotive design, and a lightning rod for both praise and criticism.
Spend an hour driving the BMW 7 Series sedan and you'll know what the fuss is about. This is a luxury sedan in the truest sense. It's a great way to travel, and it won't take long to be convinced.
All 7 Series sedans feature dual-zone temperature and airflow adjustment for the front passengers, managed by familiar knobs and buttons arrayed across the center of the dash.
Every detail in a BMW is made to match the highest standards, including your own specifications. Aside from providing whatever a driver needs, BMW also provides what car enthusiasts want, including the most advanced and innovative technology in auto parts.
Headlights are the one of the most important parts of a car, especially at night. In this article, you'll learn about BMW headlights.
There's no denying it; sports cars have gone all high-tech on us. Open the door, slip inside, and ...
All that changes with the M Roadster, a buffed-up version of the standard Z4 that quickly puts to bed the whole "sporty" car versus "sports car" argument. This newest and fastest of all Z4s hits the road with enough performance to not only eclipse its less powerful stablemates, but also challenge the almighty M3.
This is one of those cars that sends writers scurrying to look for new and unusual superlatives, because it stands head and shoulders above all of the previous generations of M3 in sex appeal, but mostly in performance.
The way luxury sports coupes and sedans have evolved in the last decade is as exciting and surreal as something straight out of an action comic book. With every passing life cycle, these things are becoming so much more powerful than the average car that they too may someday become faster than a speeding bullet.

Physical measurements support the visual similarities. The X3's 110-inch wheelbase is less than 1 inch shy of the X5's. The wheelbase is the distance between front and rear wheels.
The BMW X3 gets a new look for 2007, and though there's a close family resemblance to the new, larger X5, a closer look reveals significant differences.
The sport in BMW's X5 sport-utility is most obvious in the driving. The X5 is a heavy vehicle, but it can get down the road with more alacrity than the typical SUV. It's balanced, solid and definitely BMW.
The BMW X5 4.8i we drove was notably quick to take off, despite its substantial curb weight of more than 5,000 pounds. BMW credits its new six-speed transmission for this rapid forward response. At deep throttle, the V8's pleasant, distant growl never intruded on cockpit conversations or speakerphone communications.
Like most BMWs, the BMW X6 is a fine automobile. It rides high like an SUV; it's fast; it handles well; and it's comfortable inside. Ride quality is a bit harsh, the price of admission is high, and compared to an SUV it has limited space inside for passengers and cargo.
Laurens, South Carolina — The BMW X6 xDrive50i is a behemoth, but in BMW fashion it tosses sport-ute convention out the window in favor of sports-sedan flair. It tips the scales at a whopping 5270 lb., has 8.3 in. of ground clearance, seats only four and has limited rear storage space due to its coupelike roofline.
When BMW first released the Z4 in 2003, its styling drew criticism. It appeared to be sculpted for the sake of sculpting, and you either liked it or you didn't.

The LaCrosse is unmistakably a Buick, with its long nose, long slopes and simple body curves. For 2008, the waterfall grille grows in size to resemble that of the new Buick Enclave (a cue introduced on the 2004 Buick Velite show car). The hood and front fascia are slightly revised for 2008.
Buick LaCrosse's V6 engines offer good power, growling under acceleration, but motoring along smoothly and quietly on the freeway, and the transmission works flawlessly.
The YELLOW check engine light comes on usually because of a malfunctioning emissions control sensor or some other computer sensor problem.
There is no mistaking the Lucerne for anything but a Buick. The Lucerne has a handsome appearance with a good stance thanks to its long wheelbase and wide track. The classic, Buick waterfall grill blends in well with the large integrated headlamps.
Built on Buick's traditional emphases--at least in recent years--of conservative styling and interior comfort, the 2009 Buick Lucerne follows form as a distinguished full-size sedan. Ample seating and storage space, along with one of the quietest cabins in its class, along with a choice of V-6 and V-8 engines, make it the epitome of classic American-made luxury.

If you've ever considered buying a specialty storage cabinet for the back of your SUV, you probably lost your breath when you saw the price. Most of these cabinets start at a grand and climb. These wooden “truck cabinets” are a gift to their owners to efficiently store tools, computers, or valuable firearms in a low-profile and secure manner. A well-built cabinet will keep your gear out of harms way from the bad guys, and still allow the owner to use the cargo space for daily hauling.

So, what did we learn? Well, let's just say the much-ballyhooed development program at the Ring is clearly more than lip service. GM's Performance Division has indeed transformed this Cadillac into an American M5 fighter, a superb rear-drive sports sedan that blows us away with its power, brakes, suspension tuning and balance.
The 2008 Cadillac DTS is a big car. Its overall length of 207.6 inches makes it five inches longer than the Escalade full-size SUV, and nearly a foot longer than the STS, Cadillac's next-largest sedan.
The 2009 Cadillac DTS is Cadillac's most traditional model serving a variety of purposes from common civilian transportation to bulletproof versions shuttling personalities such as the President of the United Sates.
The combination of front-wheel drive, V8 power, spacious interior and luxurious trappings in a four-door sedan is hard to find, but easy to appreciate.
With its new vertical headlamps and taillamps and redesigned egg-crate grille, the DTS acquires the design language of the Cadillac family and a freshened, modern appearance. The nose is particularly expressive, with jewel-like xenon headlamps framing an expansive chrome grille adorned with a center-mounted wreath and crest badge.
At first, no one wanted to take the Cadillac Escalade seriously. Just a badge-engineered Suburban,...
The Cadillac is a luxury spin-off of the larger Chevrolet/GMC SVU, and is available in three trim levels- the base SUV wagon, the longer Escalade ESV wagon, and the Escalade EXT pickup truck. In this article, you'll read an overview of each type of Escalade.
Escalade is a big SUV, big in the way Cadillacs were once known for being big, when the Division built big cars with big performance and big flash. Big now means trucks (which don't have to meet the same strict fuel-economy standards as cars), flash has become bling, but the old Cadillac is back, with more power, more torque, and more dazzle-per-square inch than ever before.
All Escalades come with a six-speed automatic transmission that shifts imperceptibly except during full-throttle acceleration. A Tow/Haul mode holds gears longer, or the driver can select gears manually via a button on the shift lever. The multi-information display in the instrument cluster clearly displays the selected gear.
The Escalade's interior was designed to provide luxury both in terms of space as well as features. Escalade comes standard with seven-passenger seating, with second-row bucket seats separated by a center console, with a three-passenger, third-row bench behind it. A second-row bench seat is available as a no-cost option.
The Cadillac Escalade is all-new for 2007. It boasts a smooth-riding new chassis, more power, more luxury features. The styling is bolder than any American sport-utility vehicle in history. In addition to providing five-star comfort, its goal is to be the ultimate symbol of power and achievement, a mansion on wheels. And in that respect, it succeeds.
The Cadillac SRX boasts a superb balance between a smooth ride and responsive handling. It's much more nimble than any truck-based SUV. We loved its smooth, extremely quiet ride and spirited handling while driving it on twisting mountain roads in Arizona.
Cadillac may not have created the recipe that makes the SRX, but it has come close to perfecting it. This is one utility vehicle that does it all. It has the driving dynamics of a good luxury sedan, the all-weather capability of some truck-based SUVs and the space and functionality of a minivan.
The Cadillac STS has been given a substantial facelift for 2008. It's the most significant change in appearance since the STS was introduced as an all-new model for 2005.
Its latest offering is the completely revamped STS, seen as Cadillac's entry in what the company calls the "global luxury performance sedan" segment. Quite a mouthful representing the likes of Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar S-Type and Lexus GS/LS.
The Cadillac STS is everything it should have been from its inception, and more. The 3.6-liter V6 engine generates 254 horsepower, the base V8 produces 320 horsepower, and the supercharged V8 delivers 469, making it the most powerful engine ever produced for a Cadillac. But even the V6 does a more than adequate job of moving its 3,857-pound burden down the road. While the sound of the V6 isn't as robust or viscerally satisfying as that of the V8, it's nothing to be ashamed of either.
The Cadillac STS was introduced as an all-new model for 2005, and remains unchanged in appearance for 2007. Its look is both new and familiar. In some ways strikingly dissimilar to previous Cadillacs, STS is the latest example of Cadillac's Art and Science design motif, which can also be seen in the SRX crossover sport utility and the XLR sports car.
The 2009 Cadillac STS-V has more aggressive exterior styling, interior upgrades, and a host of additional performance equipment compared to the standard STS sport sedan. With a hand-built, supercharged 4.4-liter V-8 under the hood, the STS-V is a limited-edition, high-performance variant of the mid-size STS.
The 2007 Cadillac XLR boasts the latest and best version of the 4.6-liter Northstar V8. It's smooth, quiet, and powerful. With double overhead-cams, variable valve timing and electronic throttle control, it produces 320 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
The Cadillac XLR is a hardtop convertible. Press a button and the top goes up or down in 30 seconds. With the top up, the XLR looks like an edgy, powerful coupe, and it acts like one. Its styling is powerful and distinctive and its interior is luxurious and attractive.
For $100,000, your car ought to have a real wire-mesh grille. The Cadillac XLR-V has one.

Most people take pride in owning a reliable, attractive car or truck. The key to keeping a vehicle dependable and aesthetically pleasing is a normal maintenance regimen. To some, taking their vehicle to the car wash every two weeks and to the quick-lube joint every 3,000 miles is their idea of routine maintenance. But cars and trucks need more than this to maintain their showroom appearance, to continue to run correctly, and to optimize the factory's safety features.
There are several things you must do to keep your car in immaculate condition. Apart from regular mechanical servicing and maintenance, your car must also be groomed regularly to keep it looking and running like new.

The Chevy Avalanche successfully combines the hauling capacity of a long-bed pickup with the comfort of a five-passenger SUV. We found it an innovative, well-designed vehicle, impressively executed.
Steering is more crisp than casual. Occupants suffer little head toss over moderate pavement heaves. Body lean in corners is much less than in last year's Avalanche. Firm brake pedal feel returned controlled stops, even when a green light at an intersection occasionally seemed to jump directly to red, compelling a hurried stomp on the pedal.

The Chevrolet Aveo is Chevy's smallest, least expensive car. Aside from its price, what's most attractive about Aveo is its surprisingly handsome interior, at least on the up-level LT. Its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is rated at 103 horsepower, which is adequate.
Chevrolet redesigned the Cavalier several years ago, making it bigger and fancier so it could better compete with the Honda Civic. As a result, it needed a new entry-level model. That is the Aveo, which is built by the Korean automaker Daewoo.
The 2007 Chevy Aveo gets a new appearance and a more aerodynamic shape, one of the benefits of which is to reduce wind noise at highway speeds. Like many cars it has a look that tries to find wide acceptability by not offending anybody by being either too boring or too radical.

The Chevrolet Cobalt is quite pleasant to drive, especially the SS models. It's quiet for a car that retails for less than $20,000. Chevrolet put considerable effort into special door seals, sandwich steel panels, thick carpets and pads, noise blockers and noise absorbers throughout the front, middle and rear of the car. As a result, normal front-seat conversation is possible at speeds above 90 mph.
Cobalt uses different seats in the different trim levels, each with detail changes in foam, padding and trim. We found plenty of fore/aft and rake adjustment for a 6-foot, 4-inch driver, plus seat height adjustment with a ratcheting handle.
The Chevy Colorado has been cleaned up for 2008, with more body-color trim, and less black or charcoal plastic, for more solid, monochromatic look.
The Corvette coupe and Convertible get something significantly new for 2006: An optional automatic transmission as advanced as some of the other high-tech components introduced with the C6. Indeed, the new six-speed Paddle Shift automatic is one of the most technologically advanced transmissions in the industry, featuring clutch to clutch operation, manual shifting via steering-wheel levers and an electronic controller with more computing power than the typical PC had 10 years ago.

The Chevrolet Corvette is a blast to drive in any iteration, and menacingly uncomfortable in none. Whether cruising down the highway or pushing your limits on a race track, the current Corvette is much easier to drive than the old one.
The Chevy Equinox is larger than other compact SUVs. Its flexible interior design provides room for five full-size people and their gear, featuring a sliding second-row seat. Equinox comes standard with a V6 and, with an ongoing set of improvements, offers good value. The Equinox Sport is more responsive and more fun to drive with little impact to fuel economy.
The Chevy Equinox is among the few compact sport utilities that offers a V6 engine. It delivers good acceleration and it's smooth enough. EPA fuel economy estimates are 19/24 mpg city/highway for front-drive models and 18/23 for the AWD version. The 3.4-liter V6 is an old overhead-valve design that lacks modern features such as variable valve timing and variable-length intake runners.
Chevrolet's 3.4-liter unit is an old pushrod-overhead-valve design that lacks modern features such as variable valve timing and variable-length intake runners (although it does feature hydraulic roller lifters, just like a Corvette). It feels strained when pushed at high rpm.

The new Chevrolet Impala represents an improvement over previous models. The 3.5 and 3.9 V6 LT and LTZ versions are pleasing to drive overall. While the SS cuts a conservative but dashing figure with its quiet badging and giant five-spoke, 18-inch wheels, it's got more power than it knows what to do with, though we enjoy its loud, authoritative exhaust rumble.
The 2008 Chevrolet Impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design that's not so homogenized as to be boring. It's an attractive car.
All Impalas come with a MacPherson-strut, coil-over-spring independent front suspension, with gas-charged struts and a stabilizer bar. The rear suspension uses a trailing tri-link setup with gas-charged struts and coil springs.
Chevrolet has followed an industry-wide trend with the Malibu, stretching the wheelbase a full six inches compared to the previous model, to get more interior room for the occupants and a smoother, quieter ride, with an overall length that's only three inches longer, which means the all-new body has the preferred wheels-at-the-corners look.
We drove all three versions of the new Malibu, the four-cylinder four-speed automatic, the hybrid, and the V6 with the six-speed automatic. Most of our time was spent in the V6, however.

The Monte Carlo was born in 1970 as a high-style variant on a more mundane mid-size sedan, and as a high-value alternative to more expensive personal luxury coupes. Its mission, at which it succeeded brilliantly, was to deliver a lot of visual importance for relatively small monthly payments.
The 2006 Chevy Silverado is the last of its generation. An all-new generation of trucks is being introduced for 2007. So look for deals on the outgoing 2006 classic versions. The 2006 Silverado rides well and handles well. It's quick and it's comfortable. Boxed and hydroformed frame rails provide a strong, rigid platform. It is, as the advertising tagline says, like a rock.
For this generation the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra do not share near-identical appearance. Lamps and trim vary but so do fenders, boxes and the hood; mechanical bits are shared. Dual-rear-wheel pickups have a hydroformed sheetmetal pickup box with integral overfenders and better paint finishing
The all-new Chevy Silverado is here. Completely redesigned, the new Silverado is built on a stiffer chassis. Also very important, the 2007 Silverado features an all-new interior that can be outfitted for work or pleasure.
The Chevy Silverado Classic feels tight and quiet, with little road noise or wind noise. Those are benefits of its stiff frame, which minimizes noise and vibration from the running gear.
Think of the 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic as a completely restored vintage truck. Or perhaps it's more like the discovery of a brand-new vehicle sitting in an old, abandoned warehouse.
The Chevy Silverado HD is an ideal choice for those who want heavy-duty pickup workability with less of the cumbersome feeling occasionally associated with large trucks. It can be dressed down for work or dressed up for those who spend a lot of time in it. For the first time, the diesel is at least as environmentally friendly as the gasoline engine. It is ready, willing and able to work. The Silverado HD models make excellent tow vehicles.
An HD Silverado drives heavy, as in a solid feel and deliberate control inputs. It is confident empty or with a maximum load on board, and the added frame stiffness and body build quality mean there is much less sensation of a separate cab and box.
Silverado HD pickups are about real work and serious play. The 2500-series is often used like a second car and charged with pulling the boat or trailer on weekends, while the 3500 usually sees hauling and pulling duty on a routine basis and tows the fifth-wheel RVs and six-horse trailers.
The 2007 Chevy Silverado may not have the aggressive styling of the Dodge Ram or Nissan Titan or even the Toyota Tundra or Ford F-150, but its upright design may be considered both bold and appealing to its faithful customers, and they buy hundreds of thousands of Silverados each year.
The Chevy Silverado offers more choices in light-duty pickup variations than any other save GMC and perhaps the Ford F-150. It is among the smoothest riding and quietest of all full-size pickups, at any comparative price point and will face stronger competition from the redesigned for 2009 Dodge Ram and Ford F-150.
Suspension choice is key to the driving characteristics of the Chevy Silverado. The basic Z83 suspension is best chosen for budget constraints (or if you plan to make modifications and throw away the stock parts). The Z85 is similar except that it uses better shock absorbers and is calibrated for how today's light-duty pickups are often used as daily transportation.
This latest chassis is stronger, stiffer and fully boxed; many good things flow from there. If the last Suburban you drove (or owned, or still own) felt hinged in the middle and rode hummocks like a porpoise, the new and improved version will dazzle you.
The new chassis is stronger, stiffer and fully boxed; many good things flow from there. If the last Suburban you drove (or owned, or still own) felt hinged in the middle and rode hummocks like a porpoise, the new and improved 2007 will dazzle you.
The Chevy Suburban can seat six to nine passengers. Our test model with the LT3 equipment group was equipped to carry seven, with a 60/40 second-row seat for three, and a two-passenger third-row seat.
The Chevy Suburban has been thoroughly redesigned for 2007, which means it might be called all new, although it seems odd to apply those words to something that's been around for 70 years. This is the 11th generation of the venerable Suburban.
It probably doesn't come as a surprise to learn that Chevrolet's Tahoe has been the best-selling ve...
The next-generation Chevy Tahoe lineup was rolled out for the 2007 model year and it's among the best of the full-size SUVs. For 2008, a new gas-saving Hybrid model has been added.
The 2007 Chevy Tahoe offers 4.3 more cubic feet of interior cargo capacity than the previous model, and that interior space has been enhanced by sculpting out the interior door panels, the backs of the front seats and by redesigning the headliner.
The 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe is available in LS, LT, LTZ and Hybrid models, in either 2WD or 4WD. All Tahoe models are built on GM's full-size SUV platform that incorporates features such as a fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering.
Chevrolet engineers like to say that their new Tahoe lives larger inside but drives smaller outside. By that they mean that while the vehicle feels big inside, but has a taut feeling on the road so the driver doesn't necessarily feel like he or she is at the wheel of a full-size SUV.
Tahoe can accommodate five to nine passengers, the latter when ordered with the available front bench and third-row seating. All three rows offer spacious seating.
TrailBlazer's six-cylinder 4.2 liter engine, called the Vortec 4200 is smooth and quiet. The faster it goes, the smoother it seems to get. It's an inline-6, a design that's inherently better balanced than a V6. It idles so smoothly that Chevy Truck added a device that prevents the starter from grinding if the key is turned when the engine is already running.
Chevy Uplander comes standard with a big 3.9-liter V6 with variable valve timing that delivers 240 horsepower. That's strong power, placing it between the 244-hp Honda Odyssey and the class-leading 266-hp Toyota Sienna. In torque, the three are closer, however, and torque is what you feel when you accelerate from an intersection.
Chevrolet claims the Uplander's innovative styling combines the best attributes of vans with the bold look of a sport-utility vehicle. This is accomplished, according to Chevrolet, with a long hood and a large, chromed-ringed grille sporting a big Chevy bow tie.
Chevrolet would be happy if you thought of Uplander less as a minivan and more as a blunt-nosed SUV crossover. Uplander's pouty snout was calculated to suggest this. Regardless, the Uplander is the best minivan Chevrolet has ever offered.
If you're searching for inexpensive, high-value transportation with a new-car warranty, the Chevrolet Cobalt is worth a look. Read this article and know more.
The Chevy Equinox is aerodynamically smooth, thanks to a subtle shaping of front and rear fascias as well as the rear spoiler. From the front, Equinox still looks the part of a Chevy truck, with its requisite single-bar grille sporting a large gold Chevrolet bow-tie emblem.
Both the Equinox and Freelander represent well-built compact SUVs with different purposes. While the car-based Chevy Equinox is an SUV built chiefly for the road, the Land Rover Freelander has full off-road capabilities.
The Chevrolet Impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design that's not so homogenized as to be boring. It's an attractive car. Launched as a 2006 model, the design features smooth lines. The big headlamps have a premium, jeweled appearance with three independent lighting units and are smoothly integrated into the front end. The tail lights are nicely integrated as well.
Suspension choice is key to the driving characteristics of the Silverado, while the cabin configuration (pure pickup WT/LT or luxury LTZ) is key to how you expect to use the truck and what you expect from it.
It took 18 months, but General Motors has
improved fuel economy on some already fuel-efficient small cars by
fine-tuning technology. The new technology, dubbed XFE for Xtra Fuel
Economy, will be on the Chevrolet Cobalt LS and the 1LT models with manual
transmissions.

From the driver's seat, the Chrysler 300 is one of the better big American sedans we've tested, and certainly the most interesting. To be sure, that view is colored by a preference for rear-wheel drive. Yet more than that, the 300 has created a new definition for the Detroit sedan.
From the driver's seat, the Chrysler 300 is one of the better big American sedans we've tested, and certainly the most interesting. To be sure, that view is colored by a preference for rear-wheel drive. Yet more than that, the 300 has created a new definition for Detroit Sedan.
The stylish theme set by the 2007 Chrysler 300 body carries through inside, although the style in the cabin is even more clearly defined by purpose. There's a definite form-follows-function approach, with little superfluous decoration. In this interior, you'll also find the roots of a trend among sedans.
The Chrysler 300 marked a return to rear-wheel drive for large American sedans, and we consider that a benefit. Rear-wheel drive adds to the driving pleasure, which is partly why luxury sedans and sports car have traditionally used it.
Chrysler Aspen is a competent full-size SUV that offers the hauling and towing capability of a truck. The Hybrid model gives the Aspen a fuel economy advantage. Drivers who need a large SUV that can tow can get that with the Aspen, and the Hybrid makes it competitive with some of the newer carlike crossover SUVs in terms of fuel economy with comparable cargo utility. If you need a large SUV for towing, the Aspen is a fine choice. If not, a crossover SUV will provide a more carlike driving experience and fuel economy that is just as good, if not better.
The Chrysler Aspen looks like a lot of other full-size SUVs, but we found it attracted admiring looks and inquiries. Chrysler styling cues set the Aspen apart from the Dodge Durango.
Ride and handling attributes are more mediocre than marvelous, however. The reason: It's tall, heavy and narrow. The ride tends to the springy end of the scale, and the Aspen loses composure around curves.
On first impression, the interior looks classy in its material selection, presentation and packaging. On closer examination, however, and after some quality time spent experiencing its quirks and nuances, some of that initial luster fades.
Aspen is an attractive package with a competitive line of engines, including a 235-horsepower, flex-fuel V8 that runs on either regular gasoline or E85 (a blend of 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent ethanol) and a 335-hp, 5.7-liter V8 with a system that conserves fuel by shutting off half the cylinders when the engine is running under a light load. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive with either engine.
Everyone's making much of the Aspen moniker 'coming back,' and we'd like to clear that up. First o...
Chrysler Aspen is based on the Dodge Durango and shares its size and mechanical components. Aspen is distinguished from Durango by its styling, interior trim, and suspension tuning. The Aspen offers the ability to tow trailers up to 8,900 pounds. Like the Durango, the Aspen uses a truck chassis and engineering.
The Chrysler Pacifica is roomy, versatile, pleasant to drive and nice to look at. It accelerates quickly and corners reasonably well, which makes it pleasant to drive. The Pacifica Limited model is luxurious, equipped with nearly all the bells and whistles. The base model is practical, and with essential safety equipment, family features and all-wheel drive.
NewCarTestDrive correspondent Tom Lankard reported from Northern California, with J.P. Vettraino in Detroit, and Kirk Bell in Chicago.
The Chrysler Pacifica was one of the first of the so-called crossover vehicles, and we consider it both well conceived and well executed. In function, measured by ease of use, layout and features, the Pacifica is essentially a minivan.
In any trim level, the Chrysler Pacifica makes a very versatile vehicle. We consider it an excellent choice as the sole or primary vehicle for growing families. It handles more like a car than the typical sport-utility vehicle, and it makes a comfortable daily driver for hauling people or stuff to soccer practice or home from the building store.
The Pacifica benefits from some interior upgrades for 2007. These are subtle, but welcome, and tend to make the interior feel richer or more upscale. The most obvious is a Mercedes-style, two-tone color scheme for the dashboard and door panels, with a darker color above a lighter base.
The Chrysler Pacifica helped launch a trend that those in the car business call crossover vehicles. Crossovers are supposed to combine the best attributes of sport-utility vehicles, sedans and minivans, and the Pacifica still does that as well as any, at very attractive prices.
The Chrysler PT Cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930's or early 1940's American sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses. The look has been refined for the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. Chrysler says the PT Cruiser now has the face of Chrysler, which seems to translate into a more horizontal-themed grille that no longer extends down below the bumper, topped by a more prominent Chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps
The Chrysler PT Cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930s or early 1940s American sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.
Even the base PT Cruiser handles more like a sedan than a minivan, maintaining its composure in the corners. With its big 17-inch wheels and tires, the GT hustles like a sports sedan, though it lacks precision.
The Chrysler PT Cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s American iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. The PT Cruiser comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door model and a not-so-versatile two-door convertible.
The 2008 Chrysler Sebring comes in four-door sedan and two-door convertible versions with a four-cylinder and two V6s. The soft tops are nice, and the available retractable hardtop is intriguing. Styling, fit and finish and ride quality make a strong statement about Chrysler's commitment to character and quality. The Sebring measures up well in terms of materials quality, available technology, and interior room and comfort. Handling, power, and fuel economy are not its strongest assets.
NewCarTestDrive.com correspondent Tom Lankard reported from Palm Springs and Santa Monica, California, with correspondent Kirk Bell reporting from Chicago.
The new Chrysler Sebring Convertible is nice for a leisurely drive on a sunny day and pulls duty as a regular commuter with a fun side.
There's more pleasure to be found from behind the wheel of the new 2007 Chrysler Sebring than first impressions might suggest. Yes, it's primarily a mainstream, middle-of-the-road commuter, but even in its most basic form, it's almost fun, nearly as competent as some others that are generally perceived (or at least marketed) as sports sedans.
The interior of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring is as dramatically changed as the exterior, but with a much more constructive result. Unlike the outside, which underwent the remake almost exclusively so it would look new, the interior is not only remodeled and updated, but it's also friendlier to driver and occupants.
The new, 2007 Chrysler Sebring is an overdue update of the marque's affordable, mainstream family car. It's intended to compete with Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima, plus the Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Mitsubishi Galant, and Saturn Aura. As the list makes obvious, it's a hyper-competitive market niche.
The Chrysler Town & Country is a luxurious minivan with an innovative seating design that adds greatly to its versatility. The Town & Country combines the practical features of the Dodge Caravan with a higher level of equipment and style. A choice of models is available, ranging from a short-wheelbase Voyager replacement to the leather-upholstered Limited, but all are powered by smooth, responsive V6 engines and all ride smoothly and quietly.
With its 2008 redesign, the Town & Country drops its short wheelbase body style, opting for three long-wheelbase models. The vehicle's architecture is basically the same, but stretched a bit. Compared to the outgoing long wheelbase model, the 2008 Town & Country is 1.9 inches longer in wheelbase, two inches longer overall, and at least 100 pounds heavier model for model.
The Town & Country Limited delivers enough performance to exercise domination on busy freeways in Los Angeles. Response from its 3.8-liter V6 allowed us to work through high-speed traffic with five adults aboard, while its handling permitted easy passing on the winding sections in the hilly country outside Pasadena.
Take a moment to view the Town & Country in profile and you may more fully appreciate its aerodynamic design. Its raked windshield, rising roofline and beltline, and fast D-pillars framing canted rear windows help it slip through the air. Pronounced wheel arches complement sharp character lines that flank the integrated grille.
The Chrysler Town & Country is tall, heavy and long, and it drives like you'd expect given those characteristics. Drive it hard into a turn and it prefers to keep going straight rather than reacting quickly to steering inputs.
