MIAMI--For the first time, South Floridians will have a chance topreview the Chevy Volt concept vehicle on display at various South Florida venues October 18 23.

The Chevy Volt was first shown in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Volt is powered by a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery to power the vehicle for 40 miles of all-electric range. An on-board range-extender” engine and generator set, powered by gasoline or E85, is used toextend the vehicles range to more than 640 miles.

More than seventy five percent of drivers in the United Statescommute fewer than 40 miles a day (1). For these drivers, a fully chargedVolt will use no gas and produce no tailpipe emissions in this kind of day-in, day-out driving. The Chevy Volt can be recharged by pluggingit into a common 110-volt/15-amp outlet.

GM has assigned more than 200 engineers and 25 interior and exterior designers to be responsible for producing the Volt. Final production timing for the Volt is dependent on the development of lithium-ion batteries suitable for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.

A press briefing at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami Beach will officially launch the Volts South Florida tour.
