SHANGHAI - December 4, 2007:
China's all-powerful economic planning andregulatory body, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) hasrecently approved the local production plan of Toyota’s SUV modelRV-4, official media Xinhua News Agency reported today.
The Toyota RV-4 will be built in an assemble line of FAW-Toyota Tianjin,where 42,000 vehicles are expected to be rolled out a year.
Earlier this year Japanese media said Toyota RV-4 will be produced atthe Tianjin plant of FAW-Toyota before 2009. The plant will have a capacityto produce 50,000 vehicles annually.
Toyota RV-4 is most likely to compete with Honda's hot-selling SUV modelCRV in the Chinese market, Xinhua News Agency said.
Currently the 2.4 Liter engine based third generation of RAV-4 is theonly RV-4 model sold in Chinese market. The model, which came to China bymeans of importing, is priced at 318,000 yuan ($43,125) for the comfortversion and 348,000 ($47,183) for the luxury edition.
