STEP 2:

Look around your community. There will be countless real estate agents working in your community that you can choose from. But it's best not to do so blindly. Take time to meet agents at work in your community. Go to open houses and talk to the real estate agent on site. Get a feel for her work ethic, her success rate, and find out if she works with an assistant. You want an agent that you can work directly with, and not someone who has little time for you. Plan to visit both types of offices. You may prefer satellite offices. These are often found in local malls and offer a drop-in type service to potential clients. It is a non-threatening atmosphere and much less formal. Otherwise, stop in at a local office and ask to speak with a real estate agent there. Keep in mind that a good real estate agent is a busy real estate agent so she may not always be at the office. That's a good sign. Arrange an appointment to meet with and interview a real estate agent, again, so you can get a feel for how she works.

STEP 4:

Take your pick. By this time, you should feel as though you are ready to choose a real estate agent. Go through the recommendations you received as well as the personal interview information you have. Choose a real estate agent that makes you feel comfortable and comes across as someone who will take your best interests to heart. You should get a good feeling from the real estate agent you choose. Let her know that you're interested in working with her to buy or sell a property. She'll likely be thrilled to take you on as a new client.
