Wrought iron patio furniture takes on a patina with age that makes it look classic and stylish. It doesn't have to be dirty or grungy, however. Instead you can clean wrought iron patio furniture so that the style lasts and lasts. Follow these steps so you can clean the furniture without damaging the finish or décor.

  1. Lightly brush loose dirt and debris. With a clean, dry cloth, wipe and brush and loose dirt and leaves from the patio furniture. Check for any broken pieces or areas with rust.
  2. Scrape off rust. If there are small rust spots on the wrought iron, consider sanding or scraping off the rust. If the rust is deep into the iron then it may reduce the structure and stability of the furniture but surface rust can be removed.
  3. Mix mild dish detergent with warm water. Combine the detergent and water in a bucket,
  4. Wipe with clean cloth. Use a clean cloth to wipe and wash all the surfaces of the wrought iron furniture. Use a soft toothbrush for intricate designs, curls or crevices that you cannot reach with the cloth. Lightly rub all the surfaces to clean the dirt and dust.
  5. Rinse with warm hose. Lightly hose off the soap and dirt from the furniture. Keep the hose spray to a light spray and remove all soap residues.
  6. Dry furniture with cloth. Wrought iron furniture can rust when left wet for too long so use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the furniture dry. Keep water from beading in any corners or crevices by wiping everything dry.
  7. Apply touch-up paint as needed. You will need touch-up paint for any rusted areas and any areas you want to coat and seal with touch-up paint. Make certain to use paint for wrought iron surfaces.
