While in college, many young adults choose to get by with the bare minimum. From the seemingly pointless forms to the jockeying for new positions and titles among coworkers to the daily monotony that lingers throughout the office, large businesses may not teach a young college student much in their internship college opportunity. Small businesses, however, allow for the student to take on more responsibility because of the smaller number of employees that work for the company. The less the number of employees, the more responsibility each member of the team must take on, including the new intern.

Finding an internship college that teaches a student the basics of business may be the perfect opportunity for a student looking to get real world experience and learn a little bit about the business world as well. After all, regardless of one's industry, the entire world relies on business. Learning the basics before being thrust into a more complicated role will become very valuable as one embarks on their career. Even if 'the basics' are not part of a job description, having that background to build upon is always a good thing. Every house needs its foundation to stand and the same is true for one's career. Having a background that includes business and real life experiences allows for college students to gain valuable knowledge that will help them in their future career, but also helps them land a job that allows them to take their first step in their career.
