(NC)-If replacing the countertop or cabinetry is not an option now, you may be able to make some other more cost-effective changes to make your kitchen unique and stylish. Even the most standard kitchen can get that custom-designed look with a few relatively low-cost renovations. The key is to replace one, two or three of your kitchen's most standard fixtures with something less common and eye-catching.

Easy changes include the cabinetry hardware, sink and faucet. Replacing cabinetry hardware with something less standard and more stylish, even if it means spending more than you thought you'd ever pay for knobs and handles, could end up being a cost-effective way to achieve a custom look. Matching hardware to the countertop or tiles or even the newest coloured sinks and faucets will pull the look together.

Replacing the faucet is another quick way to get an instant uplift. The faucet is usually a highly visible fixture in the kitchen and sometimes the focal point, especially when under the window. Instead of a standard chrome or stainless steel faucet, experiment with colour. German premium sink manufacturer Blanco, has just launched a line of coloured faucets in all seven colours of their line of Silgranit stone sinks. While the faucets complement the Silgranit sinks beautifully, they also create a stylish look when paired with a stainless steel sink or matched up to a backsplash, tile floor, countertop or appliances.

"Our new coloured faucets are available in seven Silgranit colours including anthracite (black), white, biscotti, cognac, bronzed café and our newest, silk grey," says Alexandra Marshall, director of marketing with Blanco Canada. "For the first time, we have a Silgranit coloured faucet that can be purchased to complement each and every one of our Silgranit sinks. We have also launched soap dispensers in several of these colours."

A striking black faucet or something even more daring like the company's cognac colour, a rich coppery metallic selected for both sink and faucet, would be sure to change any dull kitchen into something designer-original.

If replacing a sink however, check with your fabricator or sales representative to see which sinks will work in your space, as you'll likely need the hole recut to the right size for the new model. Faucets are easier but a new accessory like a soap dispenser might require an additional hole drilled in your sink deck or countertop.
