High-speed sortation with mini-unscramblerStaff

To orient cases into a single-file line at rates up to 100 cartons per minute, the Mini-Unscrambler conveyor sets up products for induction into high-speed materials handling systems. By edge-aligning cartons and removing side-by-side products, the conveyor reduces system jams and mis-sorts, and decreases carton recirculation. The unit measures 15 feet long, making it cost-effective and ideal for pre-sorter induction areas, following manual or automated depalletizing cells and in manual repack areas. Edge alignment of the cartons prevents skewing while reducing gaps and minimizing scuffs. FKI Logistex North America, 877-935-4564, www.fkilogistex.com.

Vertical reciprocating conveyorStaff

Reciprocating vertical conveyors feature counterweighted lift mechanisms to cut the effective unit load weight in half, thereby reducing horsepower and power requirements. Standard models are offered with unit load capacities up to 6,000 pounds and vertical travel up to 100 feet. Load and unload points may be incorporated at any height and on any side of the unit for Z-, C- or right-angle flow. Using chain or belt drives, lift speeds range from 10 to 200 feet per minute, with variable frequency drives incorporated to attain higher speeds. TKF, 513-241-5910, www.tkf.com.

Software monitors, controls conveyorStaff

The InControlWare conveyor control system interfaces with warehouse management systems and other technologies. Using open architecture design, the system helps manage a facility by supplying tools to access and view information. Blending machine control, operator interface, system diagnostics, maintenance tools and host interfaces in a single system, the software lets operations and maintenance personnel detect, diagnose and track potential issues. This extends conveyor life and reduces down time. Intelligrated, 513-701-7300, www.intelligrated.com.

Conveyor with live roller technologyStaff

The E24 conveyor includes 24-volt live roller technology for high performance and reliable operation in a safe, quiet environment. Ideal for operations with frequent layout changes, the system may also be used by manufacturers who need to quickly change process lines. Because the drive motors run only when needed, maintenance is minimal. In normal operation, the long life motors are rated at 8 to 10 times the hours of traditional motor driven roller motors. Hytrol Conveyor Company, 870-974-5642, www.hytrol.com.

Automatic sortation speed controlStaff

To automatically adjust the operating speed of sliding shoe sorters, a new control option on the supplier's RS200 and S-L 300 sorter models lets the system match actual carton flow activity. By dynamically accommodating the work load, it reduces wear and tear on the sortation sub-system. The control also decreases energy consumption and lowers sound levels. Package flow is monitored by electronic sensors on the infeed conveyors. Because peak rates may occur for short time periods during a shift, the speed control allows the sorter to only work as hard as required by demand. Dematic, 877-725-7500, www.dematic.us.

Corporate partnership yields new conveyorsStaff

Modular plastic ARES/ARB angled roller belt from Intralox is now available with HK's live and passive roller conveyor applications. The modular belting offers an alternative for use in food and beverage distribution, consumer products and lower case-rate retail. Ideal for handling small packages and products and CDs or DVDs, the system incorporates a variety of modular belt combinations that fit into a smaller footprint at a significantly lower price point.
