There is an old saying that hair is the crown of his or her being;Hair is one of the most recognizable features in a human being, one that can easily be tailored according to a person’s desires and preferences.

For instance, since the ancient times, people color their hair with various dyes. They shape their hair into various shapes. Hair setting chemicals also enable people to permanently set their hair to a desired style or color.

One of the most preferred styles is to curl hair. In the past, this is done by attaching plastic or wooden hair curlers to sections of hair strands. But now, with the advent of curling irons, one can quickly set her own hair and have soft, bouncy curls.

While curling your hair this way is easy, there are ways to achieve these curls more effectively. Here are some tips on how to curl your hair using a hair curling iron.

1. Start by washing your hair thoroughly. Make sure you get rid of all the grease, grime, and dirt. These unwanted elements may affect your hair when you start to use the device. Furthermore, grease, grime, and dirt make your hair dull, stiff, and difficult to manage.

2. Towel dry your hair to get rid of most of the moisture. When it is nice and damp, apply a bit of styling gel, mousse, or styling spray evenly to your hair. Once done, dry your hair using a blow dryer until it is completely dry. This stage is crucial; the curls will last longer and form better when dry and when good quality hair products are applied.

3. Have some hairclips handy. Clip your hair in several sections to ease the process. Take one section at a time. Brush each section with brush or comb to get rid of tangles and knots. If your hair is very fine, then lightly apply a soft hold hairspray to hold the curls well.

4. Take one section and start with the underside of the hair and work toward the top. If you want spiral curls, twist a small section of your hair with your hands. If you want a more wavy curl, take a larger section.

5. Take your hair curling iron, open the tip, and insert your hair in it. Close the barrel of the iron on your hair. Check if all of the ends of your hair on that section are enclosed completely in the barrel.

6. When everything checks out fine, start rolling the iron up. Do not let it touch your scalp though, or you may suffer burns. Hold the iron in that position for about ten seconds or so.

7. Open the iron and release the curls. Do steps 4 to 6 until all sections are done.

8. When every section is curled, flip your head and sway your hair around. This action will shake out the curls. Style your hair, using your fingers as a comb.

9. Lastly, to keep the curls in place, spray your hair with another coat of light hold hairspray. If you are living in the tropics, you can use a humidity resistant hairspray.
