Christmas is fast approaching and its spirit is now felt anywhere you go. People used to décor their houses with Christmas lights, lanterns and the like. But is it simple to décor a house? What if what you’ve got is a log home, can you do any décor that pleases you?

Many people are fond of decorating their houses, trees and garden during Christmas season but some are not carefully doing it. Surely, there are tips on how to decorate your log homes perfectly and creatively. Take the following as your guide before you start.

  • Decorating not only the interiors but make sure that your outdoors shouts for Christmas too. Flaunt the vintage appeal of your log home.

Anything vintage is ideal for any holiday. Outdoor basics with an old time feel are desirable and you may consider pine garlands wrapped around railings with big red ribbons or red Christmas tree balls hung every 6 feet. Add little white lights woven throughout to emphasize the effect. Look at your logs, see the size? Because of their size, you definitely have to do something to still make it appear not boring and pleasing to the eyes.

Decorate your porches and outdoor rooms with seasonal items such as snowshoes, skis and vintage sleds. You can also pile vintage pillows and blankets in holiday colors or themes in baskets. Putting them in a bench will also add the electrifying effect. Baskets filled with giant pinecones and red and green ornament balls are also perfect for the radiant atmosphere of your home.

If you want to have a perfect accent to an outdoor but covered space, you can wrap large boxes and make them look like presents. Be sure not to forget to place the presents by the front door. Remember to place seasonal mats at the door and make sure the designs or colors match the occasion.

In case your Christmas tree is live and about 10-15 feet high, triple the number of the ornaments and lights you are supposed to use to a 6 feet high Christmas tree.

  • Make the décor inspired by nature

Nature inspired decors provide a feel of serenity and peace. To create the scene, you can use fresh – cut live plants. Others opt for botanicals or artificial greens but live plants stress the effect of a live and a moving world that surrounds you.

Balance the horizontal lines of your log home with vertical accents, such as a vertical drape of boughs instead of a wreath or some native branches with interesting structures such as dogwood, willows or birch. Branches and twigs also can be placed against stone pillars. That will create an additional texture like adding an uplight or downlight to create pretty shadows. Place columns of twigs in urns and pots by the front door and hang lights or candles for a dramatic entrance. Your guests will surely love them!

Instead of using the traditional ribbons, you may use white berries or other colors of this kind, pinecones, feathers and other natural items as design elements. You don’t need to always use red color as the motif because that is too traditional; you may use others shades like gold, amber, chocolate and silvery sage.

When it comes to lighting, you may use small bulbs in amber or gold rather than the standard white to create a warm, inviting feel of the ambiance. Candles placed in clear glass jars give a little twinkle to your entry way.

  • Do not over do it. Just décor and not exaggerate.

Make your décors simple and that doesn’t mean it has to be boring to be one. A mountain lodge theme inside with outdoor décor on one big tree simply lit with white lights and live, potted amaryllis and paper whites are perfect!

Some chose to have masculine effect to their decors. This can be done by putting simple and plain decors all throughout the place. Ornaments and lights can be minimized and use colors that will hint the guests that the owner of the house is a man. Just make sure it will not be boring despite the plainness.

  • Make sure you are on your best mood when planning for the decors

The most important thing before you start your décor is to consider your moods beforehand. Make sure you are on your best mood and go get your notepad to take note of your plans. Choose what effect you desire for your log home and plan for it. Then think of the stuffs that you need to prepare to create the environment you want for the holiday. This way, you can save your time and spend only a little from buying up to the decorating activity itself.
