Developing a Wardrobe Dayton OH

Got a lot of coats, but not a lot of closet space? Well, this project is the perfect solution to your quandary. Building your own wardrobe doesn't have to be complicated, and because you have a lot of leeway with materials and design, it doesn't necessarily have to be expensive either.

Got a lot of coats, but not a lot of closet space? Well, this project is the perfect solution to your quandary. Building your own wardrobe doesn't have to be complicated, and because you have a lot of leeway with materials and design, it doesn't necessarily have to be expensive either.

In fact, all you will need for this project is:

  • 2 - 4 feet by 8 feet sheets of wood
  • 2 - 2 feet by 8 feet planks
  • 3 - 2 feet by 4 feet planks
  • 1 - 2 inch by 4 feet piece of wood
  • 6 - door hinges
  • 2 - door handles
  • 4 feet long shower rod
  • L-shaped brackets for stabilization
  • Screws and a drill or electric screwdriver
  • Saw
  • Measuring tape
Directions:
  1. Join one of the 4 feet by 8 feet sheets of wood to one of the 2 feet by 8 feet pieces to form a corner, and screw in place. On the opposite side, join the other 2 feet by 8 feet piece in the same manner. This will create the back and sides of the wardrobe.
  2. Attach one of the 2 feet by 4 feet planks onto the top of the wardrobe, using screws to hold it in place. Screw L-shaped brackets into the inside corners to stabilize the top.
  3. Measure about 12 inches from the top of the wardrobe, and insert one of the 2 feet by 4 feet pieces of wood. Screw this piece into place to form a shelf for the wardrobe.
  4. Place the 2 inch by 4 feet piece flat across the very bottom of the wardrobe to create a front piece. Then, insert the final 2 feet by 4 feet piece of wood across the bottom to form the base of the wardrobe. Screw this in, and use L-shaped bracket to secure it in place.
  5. Install the shower rod about 12 inches into the wardrobe, and approximately 6 inches beneath the shelf.
  6. Use the saw to cut the other 4 feet by 8 feet sheet of wood into two 2 feet by 8 feet pieces. These will form the doors of the wardrobe.
  7. Attach the hinges to the doors at the top, bottom, and center of each.
  8. Attach the doors to the wardrobe.
  9. Attach the handles to the doors.

Once you've completed the basic structure, you can make this wardrobe completely your own by adding trim or painting or staining it. Either way, now you have a place to store all those extra coats and sweaters.
