3. Introduction

The human body has different types of hair located on different areas. Keratin, a hard protein is responsible for making hair. The vellus is a type of hair, which is fine, soft and short. Women mostly have this type of hair on their face, back and chest. Terminal, the other type of hair is coarser, longer and darker than vellus. It grows on the head, pubic region and armpits. Men also grow terminal hair on several parts of their body such as the face, chest, back and legs. While vellus provides insulation by maintaining a steady body temperature, terminal provides protection and cushioning. Some people appreciate this body hair but others find it more comfortable to get rid of it.

4. Shaving

This is one of the most ancient methods of hair removal. It requires a simple method of using a razor. This method involves removing the hair’s shaft tip that is visible above the skin. Razors used in hair removal are of several designs; some are disposable after being used while others are used for a long time and only the blade, which is disposable, requires changing after every shaving episode. The last and most recent type of razors are the electric ones. Men use razors to shave their faces and just a few shave their armpits. Women on the other hand shave almost all their body hair from their bikini areas to their eyebrows, legs and underarms.

There are a few advantages of using a razor and one is that it is the cheapest way of removing hair since razors are relatively inexpensive and most people can shave themselves. All that one needs is, warm water, a razor and cream or gel, which is optional. The cons of removing hair this way is that many people end up with razor burn, nicks, bumps and cuts. Others develop ingrown hairs, which happens because of frequent shaving done very close to the skin. A person can shave close to the skin after being in the shower for some time to soften the skin. Changing razors on a regular basis helps to prevent nicks while using creams and gels protects sensitive skin especially the genitals. This method only lasts for about three days and has to be done on a more regular basis than other methods.
