The Cromalin Largo 4406 is being touted by DuPont as a "plug and play" solution which can dramatically improve your turnaround times and proof-to-press accuracy. With its fast output speed, Cromalin Largo 4406 is also being touted that it can deliver high quality contract and imposition proofs up to three times the speed of other inkjet printers on the market.

While the printer is nicely positioned for the wide-format market, it also can fill a lot of needs for a host of other applications. One user that recently added the printer to their mix is Turner Labels & Shipping Supplies, who has been in the packaging industry for over 38 years. This package and label print shop is located in the Bluegrass state of Kentucky just outside of Lexington.

"We can create packaging labels from artwork that clients supply to us or from our talented in-house Art Department designs custom labels. We mostly use the Largo 4406 as a color proofing solution. It gives us a 'true example' of how the colors on the printed pieces will look," said Lisa Masse, art director at Turner Labels & Shipping Supplies.

"In the past we were using a color copier as our proofing option. We wanted something that was more accurate. The owner of the company recently went to a graphics trade show and fell in love with the Largo 4406. DuPont then came in and gave us a demo and we were sold." Masse reported the Largo 4406 offered them affordable operating costs, while producing a high quality contract proofs. "It is driven by the Cromanet CS color management software, which produces contract quality proofs with DuPont ink and specialty proofing media. We print a lot of labels for the food industry, where color is a key. The PMS color matches work really well. The 4406 prints PMS colors dead on. It's a valuable tool. It's also helpful to our pressmen. The proof lets them see exactly how the finished job will look," she added.

Another application for the Cromalin Largo 4406 is the fine art market. Diane Berkenfeld, the editor of Photographic Trade News (sister publication to Wide-Format Imaging) recently put the printer through the paces at our offices when she printed out some of her fine art images.

"The Cromalin Largo 4406 is a breeze to use because of the Cromanet CS software. Not all of the images I print are the same aspect ratio that the camera outputs. I will often crop images in Adobe PhotoShop, but the Cromanet CS software makes it so easy to drop in images, duplicating them when I want to print more than one copy, and best of all, because I can see the entire width of the paper, there's very little waste," said Berkenfeld.

"Whether or not I'm printing an image that's the full 44-inch width, I appreciate having the ability to output that wide in-house, instead of using a smaller printer for some of my work and having to outsource larger items.

"Calibrating the printer, and working with a color managed workflow, I know that what I see on screen is what the prints will look like—no surprises. Because I do output fine-art images, I want to be able to print using pigment inks and the Cromalin Largo 4406 uses wide gamut inkset," she added.
