Your hair is probably more important to you than any other part of your body, for most people specially the do it your selfers the hair is a favorite medium on which to experiment. There are however a few or probably many things you should not do your self at home, cutting your hair is one, not because it might ruin your hair but it can ruin the look of your hair. There are many things apart from getting your hair cut that you shouldn’t do at home. On the other hand there are many things that are great for you to do your self and could prove better than visiting a salon.

In the world of do it yourself technique s home hair color is perhaps one of the most popular. There are many reasons for this popularity, you can save time, money, and have fun experimenting without having to drive across town to do it, if you dye your hair right in the comfort of your very own home.

However, it is important to know what to do and what not to do to keep your hair healthy and looking great regardless of the color. The key is to make people believe that is your real hair color, whether it is or not.

What to DO!

Particularly if this is the first time you have ever colored your hair, you will want to determine the right color for your skin tone and overall being. You want to make sure that it will look good on you. There are several excellent software programs that allow you to do that. On the other hand, your stylist should be able to help you by telling you what might look best on you.

So DO choose the right color!

Before you go all out with your hair color, it is best to test it. Test it on a single inconspicuous strand, this allows you to test the product, test the color and determine if you will be happy with that color.

So, DO test before using.

You also want to make sure that when applying the hair color overall that you work from the roots forward. Never the ends forward. If you are only fixing the roots, apply only to the roots and nowhere else to keep the color looking even and true.

So, DO work in the right areas for best results.

After coloring, you will of course want to wash your hair using shampoo and conditioner, however, make sure that you have waited a minimum of 24 hours before doing so. After 24 hours go for it, you won t run the risk of washing the color out.

So, DO wait before washing.

The DON TS

You want to keep changes subtle and easy. You never want to go any more than a maximum of two shades either way, darker or light than what your natural hair color is.

So, DON T be dramatic, make changes subtle.

When coloring your hair, you want to be sure you keep track of time. When the color is in and you leave it in too long, you run the risk of the wrong color or damaging it to the point that you then need to repair your hair.

So, DON T forget to time yourself.

If you find you don’t like the color or the results, the best thing to do is seek help from a professional. You never want to re dye the hair immediately to correct an error, this can cause damage to the hair.

So, DON T overdo it.

Hair color is something you can certainly experiment with, you will be find just as long as you keep yourself within boundaries and don’t go overboard.
