Although there are many eco-friendly floor paints on the market, the savvy do-it-yourselfer can easily do this. With a little time and some basic natural ingredients, you'll have a simple eco-friendly floor paint that is good for the environment. You'll need the following ingredients to make a flour-based eco-friendly floor paint.
  • 1 cup all-purpose white flour, sifted
  • 5 cups cold water
  • 1 cup clay filler, sifted (in any color you choose)
  • cup powder filler, such as mica

Step 1:

Find an old pot you don't mind sacrificing. It will get stained from the process of making the paint. Bring 1 cups of water to a boil in your old pot. Once heated, add the flour and water mixture from the previous step. Stir all of these mixtures to combine.

Step 2:

Reduce the heat to low and stir until the mixture is like a paste. It is important to constantly stir the mixture so that no lumps occur and so that the mixture doesn't burn. When it has formed a paste, remove it from the heat.

Step 3:

Add the remaining 2 cups of water and stir.

Step 4:

In another old bowl, mix together the clay and the powder filler. Then stir it into the flour and water mixture until it is perfectly combined.

Step 5:

Once you have created your simple eco-friendly floor paint, be sure to wash and dry the surface thoroughly before beginning to paint. This flour-based floor paint is best used on interiors floors, with moderate traffic. If you think that your floor will require frequent cleaning or may be exposed to harsh weather, opt for an oil-based paint instead.
