A big goal of Enforcement Expo, August 12 to 13 in Columbus, Ohio, is to provide expert training and timely discussion for professionals in the field. This year, in an effort to reach even more law enforcement professionals in the Great Lakes region, expo conferences will be offered free of charge.
"We looked at our surveys and realized we had an extremely popular conference with highly rated sessions," says Judy Corey, marketing manager for the show. "We wanted to do something to make them more accessible to more officers, and the best way to do that was to make them free to everyone."
Most conferences will also qualify for CPT (Continuing Professional Training) credits as certified by the Ohio Attorney General's office. Credits will count toward the six hours of CEU requirements required for Ohio law enforcement personnel.
"Each law enforcement group contributed by providing some of the show content," says Bob Luikens, show manager. Organizations like the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Department of Public Safety, Attorney General's Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Tactical Officer's Association, Columbus Police Department, Franklin County Sheriffs Office and Ohio Investigative Unit will all have sessions at the show. Each of the 25 sessions is open to everyone in law enforcement, regardless of rank.
Following last year's Active Shooter Response Training, this year's show will include a session called "Active Shooter Update: Lessons Learned," and will delve into the shortcomings of traditional immediate action/rapid deployment tactics.
Other sessions address victims of crime, death notification and how to built effective partnerships with victims advocate groups.
The Ohio Tactical Officers Association will offer four sessions relating to team leader selection, SWAT fitness, emergency operations centers and operational planning for tactical teams.
"Operation Street Smart for a New A.G.E. (Adult Gang Education)," a new two-part program, will explore the history of gangs. A special emphasis will be placed on laws pertaining to Ohio gangs, but officers from all states are encouraged to attend.
Fraternal Order of Police Labor relations experts will also be present to address officers' rights, grievance and arbitration; and a roundtable discussion will feature representatives from labor, management and an arbitrator.
During the show, attendees can receive updates on liquor laws, ACAMS (Automated Critical Asset Management System), cultural outreach in fighting terrorism, high risk traffic stops, search and seizure laws, detecting fraudulent documents, off-duty survival and more.
All sessions are open seating and are offered on a first come-first served basis. Attendees are encouraged to pre-register prior to July 31.
