There is a new Dog on the prowl, sniffing out files to download from the Internet. This new dog is called "FileHound". FileHound is an Internet utility that will allow you to tag as many files on the net that you might want and proceed to download them either while you watch or sleep. Before FileHound, if you were trying to download a file from a busy site, you would either keep trying over and over like the Energizer bunny to retrieve the file, or forget it and try again later.

Features

FileHound is packed with features that will make downloading files from the Internet a snap! Broken transfers are resumed from where they left off (both HTTP and FTP on servers that allow this capability) and you can load multiple files in the queue, which allows starting, stopping and resuming. All of your downloaded files are managed nicely even if you forget where you put them. The Internet can sometimes send other little bugs with your downloads, so FileHound includes integrated virus checking (manual or automatic) that works with McAfee, Norton, and others. You can specify where to save files, passwords, and login IDs. You can surf the net while downloading, thanks to bandwidth throttling, which helps control resource allocation and aids in keeping you connected. FileHound will download your queued files until you turn off the power or stop the action. FileHound will also resume trying to download after you turn power back on. FileHound features sound prompts that can be turned off, and complete session logging for error recovery and diagnosis.

FileHound does require two mouse clicks to launch instead of the one click that you would use with your favorite browser, but this is the only downfall that you will ever notice about this jewel. How it works is simple. FileHound scans the clipboard for URLs to download. To download a file with FileHound, do one of the following: * Drag and drop a web link from your web browser onto FileHound's window * Right-click on a web link and choose "Copy to Clipboard" or "Copy Shortcut" (FileHound will grab the link from the clipboard and you only need to tell it to START downloading) * Type the URL into FileHound's edit window To download multiple files from one page or an FTP site, drag and drop the FTP directory or web page onto FileHound's window and let FileHound retrieve the listing of files. FTP directory names can also be keyed manually into FileHound's edit window. FileHound extends the basic file download functionality far beyond what you are used to having in your web browser by way of various tabbed option settings. FileHound does not make any changes to your system and it does not modify any system settings or move any files. You can't hurt anything by just playing around with it, so you can safely experiment with FileHound and see what each feature does.
