Formula 45 Yacht DuBois PA

The Formula 45 starts off with a layer of gelcoat followed by a coat of vinylester resin and then a coat of chop, also wet out in vinylester resin. This skin coat, with a premium-resin foundation, protects against osmotic blistering on the hull bottom and print through on the hull sides.

Model Introduction
Formula has been steadily increasing the size of its boats, and the Formula 45 is now the second-largest model in the builder's lineup. The Formula 45 coupe is remarkable in a number of ways, including a cabin that's large, and accommodating for a 45 footer, exceptional visibility from the helm afforded by a large well-designed and engineered windshield that eliminates the need for canvas and plastic filler curtains, excellent engine room accessibility due to a cockpit that hinges well clear, and the use of Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, which presents many benefits to both performance and accommodations, as well as to the value, utility and enjoyability of the yacht.

Construction
The Formula 45 starts off with a layer of gelcoat followed by a coat of vinylester resin and then a coat of chop, also wet out in vinylester resin. This skin coat, with a premium-resin foundation, protects against osmotic blistering on the hull bottom and print through on the hull sides. The bottom is a solid fiberglass laminate, while the sides are cored with Divinycell for added lightweight stiffness (Formula has never used balsa coring in its hulls).

The hull bottom is supported by a one-piece molded and flanged fiberglass grid that's bonded in place with Plexus adhesive. A fiberglass-encapsulated stringer grid with Coosa board composite supports the cabin, and structural bulkheads are composite fiberglass and Coosa board. The shoebox hull-to-deck joint is also bonded with Plexus and through-bolted every 18 in. Areas that can't be reached from inside the boat have aluminum backing strips that are tapped to serve as nuts for the through bolts, which means no lag bolts are used. Decks are cored with Divinycell, and all through-hull and through-deck penetrations are drilled through solid, coreless sections. This all adds up to a solidly built, well constructed vessel of moderate weight, which makes economical operation possible.
