A couple of years ago, musicmeister and pianist extraordinaire Bruce Hornsby had one of his biggest hits with "Gonna Be Some Changes Made." In fact, Lowe's Home Centers used it in its advertising campaigns. Well, this being a print publication I cannot play the song, but I'm gonna use it as the basis for my column.
With this issue, there are a couple of new additions to Electrical Contracting Products magazine. One is the presentation of a relatively new feature called "Power Savers," which became a part of the magazine's editorial calendar in 2007 that is primarily used by me, our salespeople and advertisers. However, I thought "Power Savers" deserved more significance within the magazine editorally.
These monthly articles will take a closer look at energy-efficient products and technologies. On occasion, we'll also feature an electrical contractor that has made energy efficiency a core of its business. As energy costs remain high—and more than likely will not go down—and with our electrical grid already stretched to its limits, the need for energy efficiency is now, not later.
In the back of the magazine, there is a new columnist, Tom Grandy. This column, called "Contractor Corner," is designed to help electrical contractors run their business, watch for any danger signs your business faces and issues you may encounter. Hopefully, you will find this column of use. Please let me know what you think.
In the months ahead you will see other changes/additions within the magazine. One is a new monthly products section called "Product Innovation Winners." In November, we will spotlight the 18 products that ECP readers chose as Innovation Award winners, which will be presented at the National Electrical Contractors Association conference in San Francisco. Beginning in January, we will spotlight those products that were not chosen, but are still winners because they are innovative products.
In addition to the print magazine, the Website for Electrical Contracting Products went through a redesign this past summer. Please check out www.ecpzone.com for the Website's new look and features.
The new Website is sharper, more colorful and, more importantly, easier to navigate. It also will enable us to become more interactive with you, Electrical Contracting Products readers as well as others in the industry. We had our first Webinar, which surpassed our expectations, on Sept. 11 on NFPA 70E. If you missed the Webinar, you can still see and listen to it at the new Website.
Other new features on the site include quick polls, in which we ask visitors to provide us their thoughts. You also can become interactive through the blogs and forums. With this new feature, industry professionals can interact with one another, discuss industry-related topics, and perhaps even learn something from peers.
In time, there will be other changes to Electrical Contracting Products magazine and its Website, www.ecpzone.com. So look at what we're doing, visit the Website and take advantage of its new interactive offerings. And, let us know what you think. After all, these changes are with you in mind.
