Get a Security System to Protect Your Home from Burglary in Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg

Author: Business Local Listings

Burglary is the most common crime that threatens homes in the United States and it would be wise to find a reliable security system to protect your home. After all, the FBI reports that a burglary is committed every 15.4 minutes in the US.

Although burglary is a crime that is committed when there is no one home, it’s being non-confrontational does not make it any less traumatic for the family. The feeling of violation is the same and family members are left anxious all the time. Would you risk leaving your family home exposed to such danger?

Burglars usually take small expensive items that they can convert to cash very easily. Among these are cash, of course, and jewelry, watches and smaller electronic gadgets such as laptops, notebooks, video cameras, DVD players and the like.

Homes that happen to have some cover and good escape routes are preferred by these burglars. Most of them enter a home with some amount of force, using small pry bars, hammers, channel-lock pliers and screwdrivers. They first try to find unlocked doors or windows, of course. The most common points of entry are the front door, back door and garage door. The back door and garage door are often the weakest points in a home’s security and also provide the most cover.

Windows are also often inadvertently left open or unlocked at home. Burglars have sharp eyes for open windows. Ground floor windows are very accessible to them. Upper storey windows are vulnerable points of entry, too, if accessible by a stairway, fire escape, fence, tree or a low balcony.

Lights could also be major factors that could invite burglars. A home that is dark from sundown onwards is obviously empty. So is a home that has porch or garage lights on all day.

Programmable light timers could be used to fool burglars to think that the house is occupied. Outdoor lights should be programmed to turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn. Indoor lights should be programmed to turn on and off in certain rooms at certain times at night in the same way you would turn them on and off if the family were home. The television or radio could be programmed in the same way to complete the illusion.

Outside lighting should be bright enough for any lurkers to be exposed. Remember, burglars don’t want to be seen.

Good lighting and timer systems are not enough to deter burglars and prevent burglary, though. Find a reliable security system that can give you digital surveillance cameras and recorders for round the clock video surveillance of your premises and surroundings. It would be even better if you find one that provides real time remote viewing of the surveillance camera output from any PC, laptop or notebook anywhere in the world by internet.

Surveillance should be matched with access control in all entrances, as well as sensors, motion detectors, glass break detectors and alarms on all doors and windows.

Make sure that all these are connected to a 24-hour emergency response system that is also connected to the police. A good residential security system should protect not just against burglaries but against other dangers, as well, such as fire.

Reliable companies that provide residential security systems usually provide commercial security systems. Ask for references and check whether they are trusted by other well-established companies like, for example, the Anytime Fitness franchise, for their security needs. You would want to be very sure about the security system you choose for your own family’s protection.
