Steps

  1. Fill all chips, scratches, or any breaks in the fiberglass.
  2. Use a racing sail. Fit it on correctly. A racing sail is a sturdy, good sail that catches and uses wind better than a sail that is used frequently.
  3. Pack some essentials, a water bottle and sunglasses/hat might be all you need!
  4. Calm down.
  5. Take a look at the course from land. See what side has more wind by looking at the ripples. More ripples and darkspots mean more wind.
  6. Know where the wind is coming from. You might want to write this information down.
  7. Find out where the currents are. Avoid all whirlpools.
  8. Rig you boat with care! Pull the outhaul and the halyards as tight as it can go.
  9. If using a spinnaker, make sure the skipper knows how to communicate with the crew. He or she has to be able to tell the crew how far of a degree he or she is turning.
  10. Keep bailing! Depending on how big the boat is, keep all water out!

Tips

  • It's easy to follow the other boats and get trapped, its better to be in clean air.

Warnings

  • Beware of capsizing! (This needs work)
