The room is emptied, the under floor prepared, the material purchased, delivered and you are ready to start. Don't rush; take your time. A laminate floor can provide years of comfort and strength, ready to stand up to real family abuse.

STEP 2:

Sound protection. Lay the fist row of sound proofing underlay. Here the rows are not allowed to overlap, otherwise you bring uneven points in which let your floor sound hollow and could cause some damage.

STEP 3:

Floor expansion. Allow 1/3 to 3/4 inches for expansion between the floor and wall, as well as around all other items like pipes and supports. The shortest joints should be at least 8 inches. The board connections must overlap each other from row to row. The distance should be at least 8 inches. This will provide additional strength for the floor. Use the leftover piece of a row as first one in the next to save material.

STEP 4:

Start the first two rows. Begin installing the first row from the left to the right of the room with both tongue sides to the wall.

STEP 5:

Measure the room. First calculate the width of the last row. If required cut the first row lengthwise to avoid getting the last row too narrow.

STEP 6:

Install second row. Connect the second one by placing the interlocking end of the panel to the already installed at an angle and then lower it to lock. Don't forget to place the spacers again. Continue until you reach the last panel of the first row.

STEP 7:

Install the last board. Place the last board of the row upside down on the row and move the tongue to the spacers at the wall. Mark both sides of the panel length with a pencil and connect the two small stripes to a line. Cut the board directly on the line, grain the cutter edges a bit and install the board.

STEP 8:

Repeat until finished. After you have made all installation adjustments and patterns, simply repeat the process until the full floor is covered.Laminate flooring is a snap to install. Follow the directions provided and if you have any questions, ask. Many hardware stores have professionals on staff that you could use if you run into a major problem. Sit back, relax and know you have installed a great-looking floor that will last for years.
