    • Red = rouge [roozh]
    • Blue = bleu [bleh-oo]
    • Yellow = jaune [zhone]
  2. Learn some additional colours:
    • Green = vert [vair]
    • Orange = orange [oronzh]

    • Brown = marron [mah-rown]
    • White = blanc [blonk]
    • Black = noir [nwoir]
    • Purple = violet [veu-lay]
    • Gray = gris [gree]
  3. Practice an easy sentence with the colours:
    • I am wearing a black coat = Je porte un manteau noir
    • I am wearing a pink dress = Je porte une robe rose
  4. Keep learning. Try some of the tips below to help you.

Tips

  • Use an online learning resource like Online French Help
  • Create a colour chart to put above your desk - include all the colors that you wish to learn and name them in French only.
  • Create a color image map. This can be more entertaining than just the colors. Go through old magazines or search the internet for photos of items, animals, accessories etc. that are mostly a single color. For instance, a brown cow, a blue car, an orange orange, a green field, a white cat, a yellow sun etc. Cut these out and glue them into a single picture. Make color labels in French only and glue onto each relevant image. If you want, you could also include the name of the item in French, to expand your learning experience.
  • Practice saying the colors whenever you see them. This is good for times when you cannot do much else, for example, travelling in a car or on a bus/train, waiting in a queue, having a shower etc.

Warnings

  • The pronunciations are not exact. It is a good idea to be learning French with a teacher, tutor, or a CD program, so that you get the correct pronunciation.
