Steps

  1. View the syllabus and know what is required to study
  2. Do not miss class work even though it is bad. You can gain something from someone.
  3. Try to understand the concept well than memorizing.
  4. Always learn chemistry with a free mind. Do not make it a stress to learn chemistry
  5. Have a good plan(corrected by a teacher/friend if you need) to study chemistry.
  6. Try to think on the situation other than sticking to a set of equations because it will help you to tackle all kinds of problems.
  7. Revise effectively.i.e revise often but in short durations(about half hour)
  8. Explain the topic to someone to test your understanding.
  9. If you don't understand a topic, ask your professor, friend or classmate who is knowledgeable about the topic.
  10. Always try to visualize the things you study. For example you might imagine increasing sizes of balls down the periodic table to relate the increasing size of atoms.
  11. It will be easier to remember something as a picture than a statement.
  12. Always try to remember what you learned.i.e. question yourself.
  13. When coming to class, always be prepared.
  14. Know your professor's teaching strategies and attitudes so you'll be able to cope with the subject load better.
  15. During lectures, take note of important formulas and how to use them.
  16. Do plenty of practice exercises. They help a lot.

Tips

  • You can always use reference materials to guide you through the subject.
  • Don't be shy to ask questions from your teacher. It is you who is going to sit for the exam. You need to know everything that is in your syllabus.
  • Try to relate the environment and chemistry because it plays a major role in the present way of living.
  • Practice solving chemistry problems because they test how well you understand the topic. Do again sample problems and solve as many problems as you can until you master the entire topic.
  • Don't focus on the final answer itself. Make sure you know how to do the problem from scratch.

Warnings

  • Remember do not study too much just before the exam because you will forget everything.
  • Do not study chemistry late in the night because it will be hard to think as you feel sleepy.
  • Don't act as if you know everything. It pays to listen attentively because you might have some misconceptions that need to be corrected.
  • During the entire term, it is a must that you do your best. It would be unfair for the others if you ask for extra work to compensate for your poor marks. Extra work is not needed if you have done your best.
