Steps

  1. Make sure you studied the appropriate material. Don't wait until the night before to start studying- a week before the exam, start studying. You'll be surprised how much more it will help.
  2. Make a timeline on the test. As soon as you are given the test, write down a list of all the dates and events that you remember from the material. Do this very lightly, so that you can erase it once you've completed the exam.
  3. Read the question presented to you. Read it twice, if you need to, and make sure that you completely understand what is being asked before you begin. Even one number in a date can mean the difference between a major war and the founding of a country in History, so make sure you pay attention to the numbers especially.
  4. Refer to your timeline. Circle the dates and events that you will be using to answer the question.(More than likely, not everything will be asked about in the test. Don't try and cram everything in just so it will be obvious you studied. Answer the question, don't answer anything else.)
  5. Answer the question.
  6. Make sure all areas of the question are covered. If you don't remember a certain area of the question, don't skip it. Pause, think, and try to remember it. If you studied as much as you should have, the information should be in your mind somewhere. Don't take too long- if you can't remember the area in five minutes time, skip it and move on. Come back to it after you've finished the rest of the essay.
  7. Re-read your answer. Make sure that you've spelled everything correctly, and have used proper grammar. If the teacher doesn't understand what you are trying to say, they will probably count it wrong.
  8. Before you hand in your test check your answer first and then you can hand in the test and now you can breath and relax.

Tips

  • Be sure to always be connected to the question, many times lots of material is learned but little material is actually asked.
  • Never write extra, you may run out of time.

Warnings

  • Always make sure you write your name clearly and legibly at the top of every page.
  • Number your pages.
