Steps

  1. Make sure you have your living situation all squared away well in advance. This will save you a lot of stress and headaches in the long run.
  2. It isn't necessary to know your roommates beforehand. But if it makes you more comfortable to have some contact with them, go right ahead.
  3. Take the time to figure out and plan your class schedule for the next two semesters. This will keep you more organized and knowing exactly which classes you need to meet the prerequisites for and which ones to register for when the time comes.
  4. You will to make sure you are prepared with dishes, bedding, and anything else that you are not used to buying for yourself.
  5. To start your college career out right, make sure that you get computer backup. This way, if something happens to your computer, you won't lose everything you have worked on.
  6. If you can, go visit the campus before school starts. Find where all your classes will be held so that you have an easier time finding them on the first day of classes.
  7. Get a planner or calendar of some kind. As soon as you get the syllabus for each class, go through and write down all your assignments. This will help you stay more organized during the semester.
  8. Figure out how you are going to get around campus and town, whether you have a car, a bike, a skateboard, or you are just going to walk. This will help you figure out how early you have to leave to get to class.
  9. Remember that this is a once in a lifetime experience. Enjoy your time in college, but make sure that you do well academically.
