Steps

  1. Make sure it is your dog who is pulling the clothes off the rack, and not some other creature; don't reprimand your dog for something he didn't do!
  2. Get your tool ready. Good tools are spray bottles (NOT WATER GUNS!) a can filled with beans or screws, a whistle, etc.
  3. Now it's time to catch your dog in the act. Sit nearby next to a tree, or inside of your house watching your dog from the window.
  4. When your dog starts tugging the clothes from the line, run towards the dog shaking the can or spraying the bottle at him saying "NO! NO! NO!". This will ultimately scare him and make him run away from the clothes line.
  5. Keep following up with this training routine, and after about 3 tries, your dog will not be pulling clothes off the line anymore!

Tips

  • If this doesn't work, hang the clothes up higher, in a different place, or dry them indoors over a clothes horse or in a dryer.
  • After you reprimand your dog, don't call him over and act normally after he's gotten scared. Ignore him for at least 20 minutes, then slowly act like it never happened.

Warnings

  • Make sure that you have a fenced area. After scaring your dog, he could run into the street and get killed if you don't have proper fencing.
