Get organized
Garages are supposed to be for parking cars. If you can’t fit even one car into your two-car garage, it’s time to get organized. You can save a surprising amount of space by simply organizing the interior of your garage. Remove everything from your garage, sweep the floors, and then place your items back, throwing out or donating items that you no longer need.
Shelving
You have two options: Build shelving units from plywood and heavy duty shelf brackets, or order pre-made shelving from manufacturers or find it at your local home-improvement store. Shelves are a great way to remove tool boxes, gardening equipment and other clutter from a garage’s floors, freeing up valuable space. You can also purchase floor-supported shelves, though these don’t free up as much floor space.
Cabinets
More garage owners are installing cabinets in their garage, freeing up valuable floor space. The cabinets, often discarded from ancient kitchens, are also a good way to hide tools, automobile products and other items.
Hooks
Don’t forget simple hooks. By installing these into your garage walls, you can hang bicycles and even lawnmowers off the floor.
Motorized loft
For more serious space issues, purchase a motorized loft. Several companies sell heavy duty platforms, and the sturdiest of these can hold 1,200 pounds of floor-cluttering items.
Storage shed
An outdoor storage shed is also a good investment. The shed can hold lawnmowers, seeders and other lawn-care equipment, freeing your garage space for your cars.
