The business world can be your oyster: Running the gamut from Accounting to Visual Communication, career possibilities are endless. But do online business degrees make the grade – and the paycheck?

Case in point: Michael Scott, in his fictional role as the Regional Manager at The Office’s Dunder-Mifflin Paper Company, could in real life net an average of $84,220 (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics). He is one example of how an online business degree can be a springboard to a career in Business.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in many business fields are on the up and up. Some careers projected to grow faster than average through 2016:

Computer and Information Systems Managers: New technology applications in the workplace drives demand for workers, and thus demand for more managers. Median annual earnings: $101,580.

Accountants and Auditors: More businesses, changing financial laws and regulations, and financial scrutiny – all drive demand for accountants. Median annual earnings: $54,630.

Management Analysts: Both industry and government are turning to outside expertise to streamline organizational performance. Demand is high for analysts with international expertise and specialization in hi-growth fields. Median annual earnings: $68,050.

HR Managers: Overall employment is projected to grow by 17 percent between 2006 and 2016, faster than the average for all occupations. Median annual earnings: $88,510.

Whether you aspire to take the career path of an analyst or human resources manager, to study net present value or labor compensation packages, online degree programs are designed for you to think critically, innovatively and ethically. You might also learn to decipher NASDAQ or NYSE tickers, the signs of a bullish or bearish market and the numbers on a fourth quarter balance sheet.

For degrees that are business as unusual, consider a certificate as a Call Center Professional, a bachelor’s in Sports Management or Supply Chain and Operations, International Business or an Associate's in Global Travel and Hospitality Management.
