Originally published at Internet.comConsisting of 5 core components, Ipedo XIP (also known as XML Intelligence Platform) is a data tool that provides for the automated, XML-based aggregation and management of information from multiple, disparate sources. These sources can be aggregated and queried individually by user tools, and/or applications via APIs and the Assembly Manager module.
At the heart of the Ipedo system is the XML Store itself, a configurable repository for persistent information that supplements the caching capabilities of the Dual Core Query Manager (described below). Regardless of the original source of the data, the XML Store allows for its storage as XML data. Features include the ability to automatically replicate key information per defined rules; versioning of documents; and schema management allowing for data exchange between different versions or dialects of the same, or different schemas.
The other core modules of the platform include:
- Ipedo Integration Manager, which allows for the real-time aggregation and transformation of data into the XML formats as utilized by the other tools in the platform. The Integration Manager utilizes XML Views-real-time XML representations of data from external XML and non-XML data repositories. XML Views can be created via a Visual XML Views Wizard allowing for live data connections to RDBMS and Web services. The Integration Manager lists as supported data sources RDBMS including Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, Ingres, and Sybase; Web services; XML files/interfaces; and customized interfaces via the XML Views devlopment tools. A document (Word, PDF, etc.) conversion option is also listed.
- Ipedo Dual-Core Query Manager, for managing and or displaying the actual aggregated content. Formerly available only with the XQuery engine, the latest release of XIP expands this module to support both SQL and XQuery engines; each of which has its own optimizer and can call the other as ncessary. Other features include an integrated Style Engine for customized content views; and the modification (annotation), tracking and versioning of retrieved information sets.
- Ipedo Assembly Manager, which is primarily a developer's tool utilizing XML, XSL, and XQuery capabilities. The Assembly Manager provides a transformation platform which developers can utilize to integrate collected information within their own (J2EE or .NET) applications, and features a "Pipelining" methodology, allowing the transformation of information to be broken down and applied in multiple stages. Tag libraries are also provided for tag-based inclusion of XML content in JSP/ASP Web pages.
- Application Accelerators, including pre-built libraries of schemas, queries, reports, and business rules to jump start specific application deployments, such as financial reporting or dashboards.
Aside from the dual-core capabilities described above, other new features in the latest release include a Visual Rules Editor, allowing non-technical users to create rules and actions based on data element values; Business Objects Integration (BusinessObjects XI, Crystal Reports XI) allowing XIP data to be made directly available for reporting or analysis; and the ability to publish integrated views of data as a Web Service.
