Enjoy the sights, the sounds and the tastes of a little Hungarian village at this year's 53rd annual Hungarian Scout Festival on Sunday, August 31, 2008 from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the German Central Park, 7863 York Rd., in Parma, Ohio. Come join the fun at Ohio's largest Hungarian festival where you can watch local Hungarian artisans make their wares, listen to the lively music of the homeland and sample delicious ethnic foods as they are freshly made. See folk dancers, exhibits and enjoy fun and games throughout the park! A full day of activities commence at noon with catholic and protestant church services in Hungarian. The kitchen opens at 1 p.m. serving Hungarian delicacies such as stuffed cabbage, fresh sausage, grilled pork steak, goulash, chicken paprikas with dumplings and "langos" (fried dough). The Cafe Budapest features scrumptious tortes, strudels, pastries, fresh baked breads and espresso coffee. Beverages also are available. The afternoon is filled with a variety of activities including "Learn to Csrds" Hungarian dance lessons for beginners, soccer matches and games of skill from the old country also will entertain the crowd. There are Hungarian books, crafts, souvenirs and novelty items for sale. The kids can enjoy making their own free arts and crafts and watching live animal presentations from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center. A short film of the 1933 World Scout Jamboree will be shown throughout the afternoon. At 6:30 p.m. the Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble takes center stage with performances of traditional folk dances in authentic, colorful, hand-made costumes. The scout troops also will show-off their talents during this one-hour of entertainment. There's music by various bands throughout the afternoon and evening. Joe Jeromos and his Tokay Orchestra and Harmonia will play in the afternoon. There will be dancing from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. to the melodies of Kalman Hegedeos and his Orchestra in the main hall while Bela Czirjak, a one man band, will entertain all day and night in the Cafe Budapest. Sponsored by the American Hungarian Friends of Scouting, proceeds benefit and support the activities of the nearly 300 Hungarian scouts in the Cleveland area.
