Media Room/Home Theater New Mexico

The plan for Kootenia Homes in Woodbury, Minn., was to design and incorporate a home theater into a model home to demonstrate design ideas. The theater also needed to function well for the home's eventual owners, who required a space for a family of five to enjoy movies with guests and extended family. It was also important to minimize the disturbance to the rest of the home. A key element was for the theater to have an authentic sound and visual quality while providing all the comforts of being in your own home.

The foremost challenge was to isolate sound and vibration from the rest of the home. Ultimately the home theater was placed under the four-car garage with solid concrete on all six sides. This minimizes the transfer of noise and vibration into other living areas of the home.
