Originally published at Internet.comMobile Armor's product suite includes multiple, individual tools that collectively facilitate the centralized security management of both desktop computers and handheld devices. A centralized component provides the main administrative functions, while individual client tools facilitate such capabilities as virus scanning and protection, disk encryption, and firewall protection, to name a few.
At the heart of the product suite is PolicyServer, which serves as the administrator's central management console for the management and monitoring of all the other products. PolicyServer allows for the management and deployment of security policies, and additionally provides reporting and auditing features. PolicyServer runs on Windows Server 2000/2003 with SQL Server 2000.
The client tools in the Mobile Armor suite include:
- DataArmor, providing whole disk encryption and requiring that users validate themselves via password before being allowed to access anything on the disk, including the operating system. Authentication options include Domain authentication, Aladdin eToken, smartcards, RSA SecurIDs, and more. DataArmor runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003, Windows PPC/2000/2002/2003, MS Smarthone 2002/2003, Redhat Enterprise Linux (2.4/2.6), Palm OS 4/5, and Research in Motion BlackBerry.
- MobileFirewall, a personal firewall for Windows Mobile 2000/2002/2003 and MS Smartphone 2002/2003 devices.
- VirusDefense, which offers both real-time and on-demand (user or administrator initiated) virus scans. Supported systems include Windows 2000/XP/2003, Palm OS, and Windows Mobile 2003.
- RemoteNetwork, an IPsec-based VPN platform compatible with Cisco VPN Network Concentrators. RemoteNetwork protects both client-gateway and client-client communications, and runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003 and Windows XP Tablet.
- MobileSentinel, one of the newest entries in the product suite, allows for the central distribution and enforcement of security policies. The vendor notes both detailed auditing and automated remediation as features.
- FileArmor, the other new entry. Provides transparent file/folder level (or entire removable device) encryption.
